Frank! Thank you - I've ordered mine.

I didn't want to get involved in this thread as I was so cross with myself for leaving it too late to order and really wanted to try this out.

Very pleased I can get it from Northerner. Great new website by the way - much easier on the eye!

Agreed, I just thought about the expenses, Swedish Match certainly has to produce Kardus and the price indeed seems fair.

That said, the price is not fair enough for me to buy Kardus. I mean, how can this peaty stuff with hints of Scotch Whiskey be any better than regular Ettan Lös?

They should sell it in a 50g-can for 15,- Euros in a less exclusive edition and I'd try it. Maybe I'd even buy it regularly, it still would be cheaper than my former smoking-habit, but this 60 Dollars special edition is really nothing that allures me. Not to criticise anyone who has bought "Kardus 2008", but it's really not for me.

    Cheers!

There are plenty of examples of financial idiocy in the world, but buying a nice snus I don't think to be one of them. They can't well produce it cheaply - it comes in a quality, well crafted, custom made, limited edition box. There are tooling costs to starting up a limited production line, the selection of tobacco is done by hand, an incredibly laborious process, and the processing is tweaked and monitored every step of the way. It is costly, certainly, but it is not "ridiculously" priced. Ridiculously priced would be selling a tin of Ettan for the price of a roll - a case where the cost could not be justified.

This I see as no different than expending effort to do anything else one found enjoyable. Some would spend a week of holidays to trek through a wild forest on a camping expedition - braving weather, cold, insects, heavy burdens, and bruises. To others, this may seem a ridiculous waste of time and effort. Curiously, though, we are much quicker to critisise others, and even to secretly hold critical thoughts of others, when they do the exact same thing in indirect exchange rather than directly. Not when they use their time to do something extravagant, but when they save, in the form of money, the time they used working instead. It's just a means of deriving pleasure from being alive. That's what we all do every day.

Moreover, it is an effective means - people hope that they will derive pleasure from their Kardus and they do. Foolishness, in my books, would be malinvestment - spending money on something you expect to derive pleasure from and failing. Working a pyramid scheme, for example - that's craziness because the person in question believes they will get rich when they really have very little likelihood of doing so. Another example might be refinancing your house in a bubble market to buy things you can't afford. That I would shake my head at. But people, who can afford the small luxury, buying Kardus... I don't see anything wrong with that.

If you want something to be upset about which involves money, let's have a discussion about the state of the world right now and the things our elected leaders are doing with our same hard-earned money. Your feelings towards Kardus enthusiasts, I'm sure, will become jolly ones in no time.

It's kind of like scotch. A bottle of 25yr Macallan isn't $200 better than a 12yr bottle. You pay for the scarcity, and for a special experience. In absolute monetary terms it isn't worth it, but it's nice to have a unique product that doesn't come along every day.
I understand. Limited edition snus art, as opposed to posters in cheap frames. If I were rolling in cash I would buy some.

Yeah, Pony, I hope this stuff gives a good Oriental massage.

probably a bit of both....I fancy myself a snus afficionado, but a poor one, or at least an afficianado on a budget. It's a nice box, but I can't justify spending $62.50 USD on the equivalent of a can of snus, no matter how delicious. Now if it came with the ability to perform "favors". wink wink.

just can't justify this as a purchase. Especially if it's peaty from the highland whiskey. Could see it as a great gift to someone who appreciates snus and the finer things in life. I stick with splurging on booze.
