okay, I'm done with this forum . I hoped I saved one persons life, just one.
It's very clear to me that you're an honest guy and I think the same about Allen Carr.
But I also believe that Allen Carr is not Jesus and his tips will not help everyone.
This forum is about snus, which is a foreign product to most of us. I guess, the ones among us, who wanted to kick the cigarettes (me included) already have tried almost everything - from going cold turkey to using every medicine or psychological advice (Allen Carr and all the other smokefree-preachers) available, before doing international business just to try a totally unknown smokeless-tobacco-product.
Yes, lxskllr and cocsp2002, you already said exactly what I was thinking!
And one last thing debes, when it comes to smoking, I'm my own Allen Carr at the moment. I still have a pack of RYO-tobacco, unopend, 2 years old and less the 2 meters away from my computer-desk, I'm just absolutely not interested in smoking anymore, though I get tempted once in a while, but when I read your response, I was nearly about to roll me a cigarette, just to make sure that I never become a preacher and missionary like you!
With all due respect to debes!
Cheers to everyone else!

wow! I've learned to not take things so personally on forums, email etc....text does not convey emotion or intent very well, I've learned the hard way, people getting offended at my emails or myspace comments. Maybe Debes was a paid Alan Carr troll!? Chainsnuser was nothing but diplomatic, and forums are for the discussion and sometimes debate of ideas, not storming off like a child when you're offended by someone's logical argument.

Me has been flamed by those that thought I was flaming them when saying negative things about Camel and Marlboro snus. Nobody took it too seriously though and no one stormed off. Maybe we should all chip in and buy this gentleman a nice gift basket so he knows that no harm was meant.

Here's my story of quitting with snus:
I've been trying to quit smoking for a couple of years. I've smoked since I was 16 and I'm now 22. I've always been very addicted to cigarettes, so much so that I would wake up in the middle of the night just to smoke. I've tried everything to quit: patches, cold turkey, gum, etc.; but it never worked. So, in the summer (June or so) I started using nasal snuff to try to quit, but I still wanted to smoke all the time! The flavors were great and it's a pretty badass little habit, but it didn't give me the kick or the stimuli I needed, and it was hard to have to clean out my nose with such frequency.
I found Camel Snus and did that for about a month. I liked it and was happy with how my lungs felt. Searching on the internet, I found out about Swedish snus and read some of this forum. However, I figured I'd just stick with what I was doing for the time being. I suddenly found myself needing more nicotine, so I started doing Skoal Pouches and Berry Blend Longcut. I did this for two weeks and then my teeth started to hurt. I finally knew it was time to order some Swedish snus. I placed my order. I decided to smoke in the meanwhile, since it beat what dip was doing to me.
When the mailman arrived, I was so excited that he must have thought me a little mad. I smoked one last cigarette, destroyed the rest of the pack, and waited thirty minutes, all the while pouring over my new stash. Finally, the moment came. I had no idea how to bake a proper pris, so I quickly learned how to use the Prismaster. I notched it all the way up (didn't realize you could make different sizes) and popped in a gargantuan pris of Skruf Stark that made me look like a pirate captain. Needless to say, I haven't smoked since. Instead of craving cigarettes, I crave snus. I just can't believe I didn't find this stuff earlier; it's the best tobacco I've ever tried. I'm a total snus-fiend now, and I hand bake like it's my job.

hahaa you got pirate mouth! I did the same thing with the prismaster and it must be the Seattle air or water that accelerated our baking ability. You'r smoke-quitting story echoes mine very closely.

Ok, I think it's a tie between Snus and Nasal Snuff both appear to be the perfect way to stop smoking. From feedback from Toque snuff customers stopping smoking with snuff, I have calculated that after one year 88% have not gone back to smoking. From the small sample I have taken of Snus users (52) it looks like between 80-90% after one year. This would concur with Ramström LM and Foulds J. Study, see below; though this study was based in Sweden, my figures come from regular Snus users from around the World and draw a similar conclusion. I must point out my conclusions are purely for interest and can not be taken as professional data in any form.
Role of snus in initiation and cessation of tobacco smoking in Sweden.Ramström LM, Foulds J.
Institute for Tobacco Studies, Stockholm, Sweden.
OBJECTIVE: To examine patterns of smoking and snus use and identify individual pathways of Swedish tobacco users in order to clarify whether snus use is associated with increased or decreased smoking. METHODS: Retrospective analysis of data from a cross-sectional survey completed by 6752 adult Swedes in 2001-2 focusing on identifying tobacco use history by survey items on current and prior tobacco use and smoking initiation and cessation procedures. RESULTS: 15% of the men and 19% of the women completing the survey were daily smokers. 21% of the men and 2% of the women were daily snus users. Almost all (91%) male daily smoking began before the age of 23 years, whereas initiation of daily snus use continued throughout the age range (33% of initiation after age 22). 20% of male primary snus users started daily smoking compared to 47% of non-primary snus users. Thus, the odds of initiating daily smoking were significantly lower for men who had started using snus than for those who had not (odds ratio (OR) 0.28, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.22 to 0.36). Among male primary smokers, 28% started secondary daily snus use and 73% did not. 88% of those secondary snus users had ceased daily smoking completely by the time of the survey as compared with 56% of those primary daily smokers who never became daily snus users (OR 5.7, 95% CI 4.9 to 8.1). Among men who made attempts to quit smoking, snus was the most commonly used cessation aid, being used by 24% on their latest quit attempt. Of those men who had used one single cessation aid 58% had used snus, as compared with 38% for all nicotine replacement therapy products together. Among men who used snus as a single aid, 66% succeeded in quitting completely, as compared with 47% of those using nicotine gum (OR 2.2, 95% CI 1.3 to 3.7) or 32% for those using the nicotine patch (OR 4.2, 95% CI 2.1 to 8.6). Women using snus as an aid were also significantly more likely to quit smoking successfully than those using nicotine patches or gum. CONCLUSION: Use of snus in Sweden is associated with a reduced risk of becoming a daily smoker and an increased likelihood of stopping smoking.
Interestingly after one year in the UK the NRT figures, I found on google, are 12% nicotine gum, 17% nicotine patch and 25% hypnosis.

debes states:6- snus , it is way better than smoking and a lot better than chew/snuff..... i swear this stuff has no nicotine in it . I know it does but i go all day without any and i have zero withdrawals , when i smoked, i couldn't go 20 minutes. after 1 hour i would be in cold sweats... snus just gives you something to do. you could chew gum..but remember, do whatever it takes to quit smoking.

About a pack a week for me, down from over a pack a day on average. I recently switched to additive-free cigarettes (Sherman's MCD), because if I'm going to continue smoking, even if it's a little bit, then it might as well be as healthful (I admit to the misnomer) and pleasurable as possible. I'm happy with that for now.
