I'd say it was the instant hit of nicotine I miss, when stressed or anxious it's almost like an instant, albeit temporary relief. I may be giving Toque some business as it sounds like a good alternative to get that hit.

      Nicotinic,
You don't mind me calling you by your first name do you?
I think you're right about the instant hit. For Snus lovers wanting to stop smoking, the best way might be to have a hit of snuff when they first feel the craving and then go on to the beloved Snus.

Mr Toque, you may find Gellivare Snus to be an interesting product. It is dry enough to be snuffed through the nose and can be moistened with water or coffee to be used in the lip in the traditional snus way. Maybe if the ban gets lifted your company or another could sell a tin with two compartments, one with moist snuff and the other dry. That way you get the quick nicotine fix and follow it up with a longer lasting one. I've found I can get a very quick result from my first morning snus, usually a strong variety, by moistening it slightly before placement or placing it further back in my mouth.
        Cheers

Hey Roderick, sorry to digress from the topic at hand, but I was wondering:

What's the difference between your "Original" snuff and your "Natural" snuff.
          Are these toasted?

I was also wondering about the moisture and grain of your snuff: I prefer a dry and VERY finely ground snuff.

          Thanks.

And James: Your idea is beyond brilliant!

            James,
I to think that would be fantastic. Let’s hope the EU hurries up with legalising Snus.
            Nicotinic,
Original was my first snuff, it's a classic "SP" style snuff and the Natural is 100% natural tobacco with no added flavours, just a pure tobacco taste.

Both are medium grind and medium moisture for English snuffs.

I think you'll love our two new snuffs which should be available a week on Monday. Both are toasts "Whisky & Honey" and "Toast and Marmalade".

Toast and Marmalade? Dude, am I hearing this in the snus forum? I hope your keeping the same grind. I'm really getting up to some fat pinches with your medium English. Cheers!

I never smoke, because it would defeat my whole entire purpose of using snus. I have other modivations to not smoke as well, since I have asthma and a family history of lung cancer and emphysema caused by tobacco smoking.

I've never smoked cigarettes... But I love cigars! I smoke two cigars a week, and dip 3-4 cans a week. 8)

                    Down from two packs

I had a two pack a day habit before I tried Snus in early July. I quit smoking completely almost immediately upon starting with snus, but mostly because I learned the hard way that it's pretty easy to get a bit of a nicotine overdose when mixing the two. Now I've sort of settled into a pattern where I smoke two cigarettes a day, but the important thing is that it's by choice. I don't crave the smokes and would rather use snus anyway, but find that a cigarette in the morning while running the dogs and one after work under the shade tree is an enjoyable ritual for me. I'm sure the two smokes aren't exactly healthy living, but I'm saving a ton of money and getting around Iowa's new smoking ban quite effectively. Not to mention I just really enjoy snus.

this is how i quit smoking

i smoked for 23 years, since i was 12 years old. no less than 20 a day. ok, maybe when i was young 3 or 4 a day...towards the last 5 years i would wake up every night around 3am and smoke in my garage like a freak and go back to bed....

                        1- read this book

                        http://allencarr.com/central/

this guy is great, he smoked 100 cigs a day every day and knows all the BS reasons to continue smoking. he claims if you read the book you will quit without withdrawals, and I had none...and never looked back since April 08.

watch this video of him below. his thinking is that there is no withdrawals and it's all a matter believing that if you aren't giving up anything you won't have any withdrawals and that cigarette companies (even in their commercials today ) pound in our heads that quitting is difficult , even governments believe this shit. they say this because they will fear you into smoking more and the rest of your life........... there are many other points in his book, and he tells you to smoke while you read it so that's cool. he's against the patch and all that stuff...even snus i guess..lol ...his success rate with the book is 70% , the patch I think is about 5%

                        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TL2Vh7goJc

2- quit coffee, coffee made me chain smoke like a freak, i can now have coffee 6 months later without thinking of smoking... but at first I didn't go near it...I still don't actually but for other reasons...i don't like it anymore...

3- quit in the morning when you wake up., not in the afternoon after you smoked all day ...the withdrawals will be crazy because you smoked all day...

4 - quit when you are ready and quit for yourself, not for your wife/husband or kids, that will just not work.

5- for me, i needed a reason to quit that would give me benefits now, not 20- 30 years from now... for me it was sports, i am way better now in hockey, tennis, ect . and today I'm not not a slave...read the book above to know more about what i mean. you can buy it at any book store or ebay. ...I also read an article in mens health mag that said if you quit 15 years before you're 50 it will be as though you never did...i read it a week after my 35th.

6- snus , it is way better than smoking and a lot better than chew/snuff..... i swear this stuff has no nicotine in it . I know it does but i go all day without any and i have zero withdrawals , when i smoked, i couldn't go 20 minutes. after 1 hour i would be in cold sweats... snus just gives you something to do. you could chew gum..but remember, do whatever it takes to quit smoking.

Someday I will quit snus. like any addiction and what most professionals or marketers don't tell you is that people become addicted to things is because they are avoiding their feelings, avoiding their lives. an addiction can be anything.... religion! golfing! heroin, reading, bad thoughts, yelling...

ok i went overboard but good luck.

                          Welcome to the forum, debes!

Nicotine affects everyone of us differently. Allen Carr works for some people but not for all. There is a difference between fooling yourself, that you need nicotine and feeling literally half-dead, because you have no nicotine. I also managed to quit smoking and nicotine-use altogether, a few times very easily for some days or weeks or months, when I was younger and less addicted, so I understand what you're saying.

You do not say explicitly, if you managed to quit smoking that easily with or without snus. If you did quit smoking with snus, then I guarantee you, that Allen Carr had nothing to do with your success.

Snus has more than enough nicotine. The different kind of nicotine-delivery is, what makes it feel less addictive and I assume, the additives in cigarettes also 'add' to the addiction. At the moment, I also think, it would be easier to quit snusing than smoking, but you will also find many snusers, who really tried to quit snus and say, that it is much more difficult.

Besides of that, you give some very good tips, that really can help many people.

                          Cheers!

Chainsnuser - I agree. I think snus causes less feeling of withdrawal because the nicotine ramps up slowly over 20 or 30 minutes. By the time you've gotten your full dose of nicotine, nothing really feels different, so as the high ramps down, you feel less of a "crash" than you do with cigarettes. Cigarettes spike the nicotine in your blood quickly, and drop off the same way.

Plus, snus doesn't require a rhythmic hand to mouth motion; you just pop it in, and aside from the occasional tongue poke (or lick, according to taste), you don't really interact with it. I can't explain it, but this has to have something to do with the "obsession". Many smokers are OCD sufferers as well, this is why Wellbutrin is a common stop smoking aid.

Anyway, do what you love, this is just my 2c.

I smoked for around 12 years and I can honestly say I will never touch another cigrette again. If it wasn't for snus I wouldn't have been able to quit smoking and I wanted to quit for years. Since my very first snus I never touched a smoke again and haven't even been tempted!

                                Chainsnuser ,

I made it explicitly clear that Allen Carr works for 70% of it's readers , that is a lot more than "some" as you put it . I also made it clear that I can go all day without snusing. Maybe you should read what I wrote again instead of debunking a perfectly honest review on how I quit smoking in the hopes it would help someone.

As far as Allen Carr's success percentages google them and read the 3rd party reports not to mention the millions of reviews in forums. After one year his success rate drops to 50% , however compared to zyban, the patch, Wellbutrin at maybe 3% to 5% this is a great achievement.

I would also like to add that when I first started buying snus I got about 20 different kinds and one I bought was nicotineless . When I got them in the mail I wanted to see if I could tell the difference between the ones with and the one without. So after each can I would look to see if it was without nicotine, after 4 days I checked after finishing a whole can and it was the one without nicotine and to my surprise I had no idea.

as I said in my first post, snus has next to no nicotine in it compared to cigarettes and American chew. For all I know I could have chewed gum after reading Carr's book and have been ready and willing to live a healthy life.

for those who don't like to read.I recommend snusing instead of cigarettes.

also, remember in my first post I said Carr allows you to smoke while reading the book, well I read reviews before I bought his book about people having a hard time smoking while reading it ....I had to force myself to smoke that last 2 chapters.

okay, I'm done with this forum . I hoped I saved one persons life, just one.
