I try to keep it to 4 open cans at a time....1 loose ...1 portion...1 mini...1 extra....This provides me with the 4 basic food groups of snus.....A snus for every mood and situation....I think they stay fresher when they are not opened.....

i currenty have 9 different cans open. my biggest worry is having them go bad or stale. if they dry out a bit..its ok.

and thats not including los...which i have ordered several different flavors of. when all is said and done...lookin at about 15 different cans open

    Hullo Zanaspus

    Variety is the keyword here.
Usually 5 or 6 open at any given time. I live for General Wintergreen but there's times when a Probe Whiskey or N&J Black jolt is desired, or an Ettan for mellowing out.

Little to no loss in flavor noted, a touch of drying but I haven't seen that to be a detriment. All portions mind, how los does I can't say......

Zanaspus, the answer is easy, how many ever feels right to you.

But you are right, leaving cans open in the refrigerator may fry them out a bit. So leaving cans open there unnecessarily should be avoided if easy.

I have been using over three years, and my patterns have continued to evolve. But for over 2 years, I only kept two main cans open at any time for that very reason. I was happy to just always chose between two.

I did keep some cans in the fridge, my Elyxr for example, of which I usually use one a day. Yes, it can be a bit dry in the end, but I am used to it, doesn't *hurt* the snus, so just use it. I have 2 other cans that have been open for 4 months, both Offroad limited edition flavors. But these snus are weird, still not dry after4 months.

These past few months, my usage patterns flipped again, and I now keep more open then ever before. I always have a General white, Grove White, Kronan, Nick & Johnny Black, and Thunder open. The General is used most, the Thunder the least, one can may sit open for at least 11 days, and is always fine.

The biggest trhing I have learned, Freeze unopened, and leave out 99% of what I have opened, try and leave the refrigerator out of the equation as much as possible. For anything less 2-3 weeks open, do NOT put in the refrigerator, it will speed up the drying process. Just leave them out and they will be fine.

At 4 a day, I would say at least 3 -4 cans open at anytime would be fine. 4 a day/4 cans.... equals a bit over 3 weeks open before you used the last one. I doubt you would be able to tell the difference between the last and the first IF you didn't keep it in the refrigerator. 3 weeks in the refrigerator?? Yeah, most snus will have started to dry out.

I value variety over freshness. I usually have several open at once, and while some may not be perfect, they're good enough for when I want that particular flavor.

I purchased a lot of snus early on, and I opened a bunch of it--maybe better than thirty cans at one point. My solution was to throw most of them back in the freezer. Worked fine. For snus that gets dry, you can always throw in a little bit of lettuce or a slice of apple or something. Or you can just add a little water. I`ve only done this with los, but I just dribble a few drops of filtered or distilled water into the can, close it, shake it a bit, and let it sit a while. Should work with portions, too, though it may need to sit longer.

How many cans do you keep open at once?

I've been at this a few weeks now, and my initial shipment was 7 cans. Being a newbie, I popped them all to try. Thing is, I only use about 3-4 portions/day. I don't know how people go through so much as I usually keep a portion in for 3 hours, but that's another topic for another day.

I've noticed the open cans in the fridge seem to have their portions drying out a bit. Being an old tobacco in other forms vet, I know this isn't armegeddon, but it certainly isn't moist and fresh like when I opened them.

So my question: how many cans do you folks have open in the fridge at one time for maximum freshness?

This may become crucial when/if I get into los.

Right now I have 11 open. Mainly because I couldn't control myself around the Offroad Limited Edition.
