Of course freezing snus one would not go by the expire date any

more than one would with frozen meat. The expire date I am assuming
is for room temp snus. It's hard to know with all the fridge freaks, myself included.

The composition of meat lends itself to deterioration much
more readily than tobacco, which doesn't have the muscles,
    fat, and whatnot of meat.

The high pH of snus complements both free nicotine release as well as preserving snus. As stated before, freezing prevents bacterial growth and sustains the pH level; if that pH level were to drop (if cans are left out for too long, as tobacco is still vegetal matter which can decay), living growth (bacterial and fungal) will be promoted.

I have heard of snus being fine after 3+ years in a freezer. However, I would recommend storing the snus in a freezer bag to maintain the tobacco's moisture content.

i have heard all the stories about how long snus will last if frozen, etc. ive watched people go back and forth about how long snus will last for about five years now. keep in mind the people who started the "frozen snus will still be good for your grand kids to use" were the snus sellers. maybe not all snuses are created equal but yea i have seen snus go bad. if it is left at room temp for around 2-3 weeks it will start to degrade. one needs to define "still good".... still there and looks like snus... still there, looks like snus and taste like dog doo, just as good as the day it was made? well i have some 2 or 3 year old N&J LOOSE that i have in my freezer and if you put any in your mouth you would spit it back out or not have taste or be able to smell. oh and it was triple wrapped when i put it in there and today if shaken it sounds like a can of dried peas haha. well thats my rant for today ;-)

I have snus going on 3 years old now. Some are as good as new, others the flavor has become muted, but they're all still usable.

              Is expired SNUS dangerous?

              Hey guys,

I've got like 50 cans or so that have just expired this month.

Is it dangerous to take that snus?

YES! You need to mail them to me right away so I can analyze them and neutralize the threat.

No, not in the least. Only thing you might notice with 'expired' snus is that it is drier; add some liquid of your choice (sparingly) if that's the case.

Snus can keep for 1-2 years if stored properly (vacuum-sealed and frozen) and perhaps longer. Dryness is a problem if they're excessively old or left out.

Hmm thanks guys will continue to take it.

I have around 30 cans of General Portion, Ettan Portion (10 cans), Ettan Loose (10 cans), General Loose (10 Cans) and some other cans of mini, white, and wintergreen portion snus - all sealed.

I've shaked a few cans of loose and it sounds like it's a bit clogged up and slightly dried.

Frozen/refrigerated snus will last for atleast a couple years. pH may drop a little which means a little bit less free nicotine, other than that taste may not be as good but it doesn't go bad, per se.

                                Definitely cigarettes are the worst.
