    Appetite

I'm a newcomer to snus and I find something curious.
While formerly I smoked 2 packs a day, using snus I
have almost no appetite. Not complaining but simply
    making an observation.
Is this typical or just me?

Well, I think it has some appetite supressing properties, and I hope that's right. I don't want to eat when I have snus in my mouth, so before when I'd be cramming in chips and cookies, I have a snus in. So, I hope it helps me lose some fat.

I think there is a lot to that. Many weight studies have shown that a MAJOR problem for people is unconscious eating. They open a bag of chips, start eating without thinking. Then, before they even realize it, chips are gone.

I have to think about when I am gonna eat. Decide to take my snus out so I can eat. So I do VERY little snacking. As for the rest, nicotine is an appetite suppressant. So snus will work as anything else that way.

I think it's a suppressant too...I'm the only person I know who quit smoking and actually lost a few pounds instead of gaining a few.

          Thank you.
I should have added that my smoking
          has gone down considerably; however,
in the past when reducing or quitting,
I wanted to eat everything in sight.

Could have been my "nipple" complex.

I have found that my appetite isn't quite what it was before I was using snus. The thought of going without snus while I eat discourages snacking. I do leave it in while eating some things though. I've found that chocolate or ice cream goes nice with General Dry Mini Mint or Catch Peppermint.

Another point. While I found quitting smoking
as rather easy, sustaining it was the difficult part.
Does this temporary condition occur with snus?
I had to quit smoking 2 months ago due to being diagnosed with COPD. But yes, sustaining is sometimes a little on the hard side. Even now I still get these times when I'm thinking "Sure would be nice to suck on one of those Misty Menthol Ultra Lights", but instead I take a little snuff (for a little more of a nic hit than just the snus), and pull out the e-cig and vape on that for a little while. So far it's worked...maybe because in my case it "has" to work. I am prepared though! If the sudden impossible-to-control nic-fit comes on, I have one cigarette that's been lit up and put out and sitting on my desk. I know if I light that thing up I'm going to think it tastes so gross that I'll put it out and that'll end the craving too.

Most of the time I do have some snus in my mouth to at least keep that level up there so it's not too bad. I have noticed though that the mornings aren't as bad as when I was smoking, meaning there's not the huge nic-fit coming on like there was when I was smoking. And no, I don't sleep with snus in my mouth.

I tried with the gum, patches, and lozenges before and those things are a joke. Nowhere's near as much nic as you need to quit smoking...the snus and e-cig pretty much made it painless! So keep snusing...the benefits far outweigh the risk. If you slip or think you will, keep a bullet of snuff ready to go and with you at all times. It'll help the craving and give you that temporary nic spike you might need for those 5 minutes.

Edit: Now that I posted this, you took that last part out about asking if sustaining was the hard part...oh well, I'll still answer it even though it's missing from your post now :P

Thanks, Sheilalynn for the thorough explanation
even though I removed part of the post.

I'll probably have to determine the long term
sustainability on my own and I didn't want to
confused the thread with multiple questions.
                My bad.

Is that a snake around your neck?

Yes it is  I have 4 of my own, but that's not one of them...it belonged to someone else.

One would. . . . but four most certainly!

BTW are they too on snus?
Are they named by different brands of snus?
I'll bet they are all strong.

I believe the jokes are almost unlimited.
But of course, the mice or rabbits find little
                        humor in this, right?

They tried the snus but the paper kept giving them heartburn 8) And nope, not named after snus, more like goddesses! :P Pandia and Pandora are anyways, Demon was named when he was given to me, and Pinkie was pink as a baby.

Just mice and rats...none of mine are big enough for rabbits...yet  And I don't think the mice and rats mind the humor much...they're frozen anyways!

Here's a better pic of me holding that same snake last month, or part of me and part of the snake, still a few feet hanging off of my hand:

I have a different experience...my snacking has been curbed almost entirely...i pretty much only eat at the 3 major times during the day...i attribute this to the fact that I don't want to take my snus out to eat...funny huh...snus over food man any day.

                              Some fun facts about nicotine:

Nicotine is actually an alkaloid and is found in many other plants besides tobacco such as tomatoes (tomacco? lol), potato, eggplant (aubergine), and green pepper.

Tobacco does dull the tastebuds, and alters the tastes of foods, but I believe the reason it actually suppresses the appetite is due to the effect it has on the dopamine (a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure and well-being) receptors, in essence it undermines the pleasure we receive from food.

Personally I only eat 1 large meal per day, and supplement with protein shakes and vitamins to maintain my caloric intake.
