I think that we humans would be the ones to just take an alien from their planet to study them, probe them if you would. Just like some people here have claimed to be abducted.

This has truly become the thread that cannot die. It was like we cryogenically froze its head to travel to another star system.

Well all we can know is what mother nature hasn't destroyed and are able to still dig out of the ground. There is some written record since the time writing was invented, but all the books claim different things. It's hard to know what happened because no one wrote anything down for a few hundred thousand years. I am not even sure when man started inventing language at all, or at what point we became self aware.
Why did we become self aware?

I think that the summerians are a very interesting culture, and I can certainly see where the "ancient aliens" thing could be found in their story.
They were one of the first real "civilized" societies, and they appear to have emerged on the scene already with knowledge of math, science, metallurgy, advanced agriculture etc, and also had already established very advanced rules of law, accounting, social institutions like marriage etc. More interesting is the fact that they had such a complex language, which no one can seen to trace their roots to, and it emerged as a complex language seemingly right from the start. There wasn't the normal evidence of them learning to write and then slowly getting better and it and expanding the vocabulary. Even their earliest writings were really advanced. But this could also be because the older stuff was not kept by them or it was just lost to time.
But they did say that essentially beings came down from the sky and tought them science and math and how to structure society, so I mean that's gotta be worth something. Plus, their version of "Genesis" , titled the "Epic of Creation" is basically genesis with a longer explanation, and im pretty sure the book of genesis was mostly plageurized from the summerian religion. It does sound like they are talking about aliens and not gods, but I mean I really don't know what the authors meant.
And they were philosophers! Look at this quote:
Conceivign is nice; pregnancy is irksom.
For a man's pleasure, there is marriage;
On thinking it over, there is divorce.

Now, this really looks like SOMETHING, not a balloon for sure, and moving in a controlled manner:

It's looks light a spotlight to me. Does that qualify as "something"?
