So i have quit cigarettes for 2 months now, with the help nicotine replacement therapy paid by the government. I thought it would get easier as time goes on, but in fact it getting alot harder now, i really want to smoke again, have no energy what so ever, feel pretty much down and starting to wounder weather i gave it up in the first place to please other people, because to be honest i loved smoking the taste everything to do with it. For me the ideal situation would to only smoke on certain days or maybe week apart. So how long did it take you to get too a point were you could only smoke so often ?
2 Months in but....

It took me 3 days BUT I choose to stop altogether on that third day, others have taken a "let the snus win" approach that works too.
To answer your question... I can only guess from day one up to a year, it all depends on you. Snus took my craving away, at least physically, and the mental was all up to me.
Check out my thread/blog and see what you think. http://www.snuson.com/forum/showthre...649#post293649
Good luck in your endeavor!

Approximately 30 Minutes. My very first snus portion already convinced me that there's no real need for me to smoke anymore. Snus has so much nicotine, that you will forget the cigarettes (and that NRT-crap even more) in no time.Originally posted by Rottenstain View PostSo how long did it take you to get too a point were you could only smoke so often ?
In the first three days of snusing I only used a few "good-morning" and "good-night" cigarettes. Later on I smoked some "once every other month" cigarettes on occasion. After a little less than one year I quit smoking entirely. I smoked 11 cigarettes in total after my first snus-portion. My last cigarette in November 2007 convinced me for good that I simply don't like smoking anymore.
Don't hesitate, Rottenstain. Place a small order. Snus probably isn't for everyone and it needs some getting used to, but it's the best stuff out there, no matter if you switch entirely or if you just seek the freedom to only smoke when the occasion is right.
Cheers!

You could smoke like on the weekends. My buddy, who has an interest in snus, and I've given him a lot, but still he rarely uses it, says it's not pleasing to snus at his work, as he works outside, I told him, well, smoke at work, and snus at at home, it'd still be a reduction from smoking.

Rottenstain,
My first question is do you really want to quit or are you doing it for some other reason?
Have you tried real snus yet? I looked at your old posts and your choice of General mini mints gives me the impression that you weren't really serious about giving snus a proper try.
The problem with NRT is you having nothing to fall back on and when you decide to cheat, you're right back at your old habit.
When I quit a year and half ago. I switched to snus full time and allowed myself a single weekend pack. That way I knew I could still have a cigarette but would have to wait til the weekend. Once they were gone I forced myself to wait til the next weekend. Within a couple of months a was skiping some weekends without any smokes at all and then shortly after, that weekend pack became a once a month pack. By six months I was completely free of the urge to smoke.

After nearly a month of snusing, cigarettes taste bad to me. I still light up one or two per day, but I rarely smoke the whole cig. Often I put it out after only a couple of drags. I'm not even trying to forbid myself a cigarette. Snus is simply so much better that I don't really have much desire to smoke cigarettes now. Where will you find an NRT that can do the same?

Might of had a one or two drunken smokes before that but cannot recall much. Went to Europe for 3-weeks and smoked about 3 packs while also using snus.
The next time I was in Vegas and smoked about a pack everyday for the entire weekend. Came back and in days had a virus/lung infection and coughed so hard that blood came out.
Once you hit 6-8 months you are in a good place for not relapsing. At two years you are pretty much officially done at least in my case.

Quitting because of social pressure from family, friends etc but one of the main reasons was that my lungs were getting messed up proper bad, plus with Emphysema running though the family. I tried some normal general snus, which was satisfying but i didn't really like that salty taste in my mouth and the minis were useless. That would be my idea situation to have one smoke on Friday. what would you recommend for proper snus ?Originally posted by justintempler View PostRottenstain,

Most Swedish snus has at least a little bit of a salt taste, although some are saltier than others. Some have hardly any salt taste at all. You'll have to experiment with different brands to find the ones that suit you. You may want to buy one of the sampler boxes that has anywhere from 6 to 10 different brands. Just about all the online vendors have them. Also think about trying at least one sterk (strong) or extra sterk variety. They have more nicotine than the regular, which can be helpful to knock out a really fierce cigarette craving.Originally posted by Rottenstain View Post...i didn't really like that salty taste in my mouth and the minis were useless. ...what would you recommend for proper snus ?

The salt is completely normal for a newbie. If you stick with it, I promise in two weeks time the salt taste will subside. That's something a lot of people go through when starting out. I did too.Originally posted by Rottenstain View Post...I tried some normal general snus, which was satisfying but i didn't really like that salty taste in my mouth and the minis were useless. To help you through the adjustment period use a flavoured snus. I used General Wintergreen and LD Black (licorice) during my breaking in period. They didn't have Thunder Frosted (spearmint) when I started, that would work too.
I don't taste the salt anymore, I very rarely use flavoured snus anymore.

COPD, emphysema and all that, that's plenty of reason to quit right there. Who needs it? Your lungs are wonderful, nearly magical mechanisms. Hey, we are fish of the air. I'm SO HAPPY I don't have to go down that road. It was starting to sneak up on me, and I could see a big load of suckage ahead. Snus to the rescue!Originally posted by Rottenstain View PostQuitting because of social pressure from family, friends etc but one of the main reasons was that my lungs were getting messed up proper bad, plus with Emphysema running though the family. That salt taste, like everyone else says, really does go away after a week or two. I remember it was eye-crossing. It was probably worse for me than some, because I've cut back on salt a lot in my diet. Heh. I guess I get a little more salt these days, but it was worth it, IS worth it, to get off the cigs.
It's the same for me. I'll roll up a cigarette every now and then, and usually toss it about halfway through. Boring--gimme a snus. I smoke less and less of them. I will nearly finish a cigar, which is almost the reverse of how it used to be; I was impatient with cigars before, because, of course, I couldn't wait to light another cigarette. (Not that I smoke cigars very often, either.)Originally posted by PipenSnus View PostAfter nearly a month of snusing, cigarettes taste bad to me. If you like mint, the general regular portion mint is very good. Sterks really helped my cig craving, skruf sterk was my aha moment. Thunder frosted strong long is discrete and great for tooling around town.
After 3 days I quit, sort of wanted to but didn't go in saying I had to. Just turned out i liked snusing more.

I hate to disappoint you but quitting smoking will never be easy but in my opinion snus is by far the easiest way to quit. The problem is that if your not ready to quit, you won't, regardless of whatever product you use. I will admit that I have sneaked a smoke from time to time but it will get easier over time and I have not had a smoke in a long time nor do I want one. The one thing about your post that concerns me is scheduling a smoke as some type of reward. I hear alarms when I see comments like only in the morning or after work when it comes to cigarettes especially when cigs are still used a way to reward yourself. Perhaps the best thing to do at this point is not worry about it at all and just let the snus take over naturally. I have a feeling that you will get to a point where snus is much more enjoyable than a smoke and that smokes will taste downright nasty.Originally posted by Rottenstain View PostSo i have quit cigarettes for 2 months now, with the help nicotine replacement therapy paid by the government. the thought of cigarettes and smoke in my body totally grosses me out now. I can't ever remember why i smoked. it's not like it's easy to "taste" flavor in smoke, besides burning organic matter. snus tastes good and the flavor lasts.
I haven't touched a cigarette in two years. I feel gross when i see cigarette displays in stores or see people holding cigarettes in their hands
yea, the salty overtones went away after 1 week. It's nothing but the pure richness of Ettan, Grov and Bla now!
