I ended up having to restart a second batch of seeds. My first batch of soil didn't hold enough moisture.
    I bought a 72 compartment Jiffy-Pot.
I had two many seeds in each peat pellet and didn't thin them out as fast as I should. So this is slowing down growth.
I bought some styrofoam cups, used my Dremel to cut some drainage holes.
I've transplanted 36 of the 72 peat pellets and managed to get 50+ plants, I still need to transplant the other 36 peat pellets.
I used Miracle grow potting mix for the transplant into the styrofoam cups. Once they get into the Miracle grow they start growing much faster than in peat, so I advise people not to wait too long to get them into soil.
A good number of my plants have 6"+ leaves and are spending 24 hours a day outside but I can't get them out in full direct sunlight yet.
Daytime temps get up to 90+ degrees and leaves will start to wilt. Probably too much water in the leaves?

Once they get hardy enough for fulltime sunlight, I'll snap some pics.

New plant pics are always appreciated!

My babies all sprouted and are growing. I thinned them a bit but they are still very small. They grow pretty fast though, so hopefully I can start hardening them off soon outside. I think I'll sow some outdoors as well. I take pics for you soon

Thanks - maybe we could setup a Skype?

Until mine are born I have to rely on you all.

I'm sure they'll be fine, they inherently have the desire to grow. Just make sure they don't dry out and give them lots of light. If they don't get enough light, they will get leggy (tall and spindly) and fall over. It should only take a few days to a week to see some itty bitty plants. Once they start growing, thin them out so they aren't competing with each other. I'm not big into Skype, but if you have questions, there are quite a number of growers on here willing to help out. I read your blog about them, and it's good you are getting them outside when the weather is nice. You will want to gradually get them adjusted to full time outside. Once they are growing decent put them out for a couple hours a day and then increase the outside hours over time. Also be careful if you water them before the sprout or while they are very small, you could wash the seeds away. Use a spray bottle, but if your jiffy tray has a clear lid, you might not need to add water for a while.

On another note: I noticed that only two threads show up in this sub-forum when I'm logged out, but they all show when I'm logged in

I've got my one plant growing in the hydroponic setup, it is now appx. 4' tall! It is a monster and I don't think it is anywhere near done growing! I also got 3 started outdoors, I was hesitant to start these because I live in an apartment and with nosy neighbors and all, there is no privacy. Non-tobacco connoisseurs (neighbors) seem to think growing tobacco is like growing weed! I've been asked on more than one occasion if growing tobacco was legal!!! Geesh! I'll get a pic as soon as I have a good sunny day!

I'm not worried about that, I'm worried some idiot will think it IS weed.

If the SWAT team busts in your door and shoots you - can I have your plants?

Here they are! Kind of leggy, should have given them more light in the beginning. I'll sow some outdoors today!

I have rewritten my will to include danielan! Speaking of SWAT and legalities..anyone know if there are any states where it is ILLEGAL to grow tobacco??

My understanding is that it is legal in all states. Apparently there was once a 1/10th acre limitation for personal use, but, as I understand this was lifted when the quotas were bought out several years back (2004-2005). So, my understanding is that you can now grow an unlimited amount for personal use. However, if you try to sell it or manufacture tobacco products for sale there are a bunch more hoops to jump through.

They are looking great! It's amazing to look at the tiny, weak stems at this young stage and watch them transform into thick, hardy STALKS within weeks!! I'll be watching this space for future pics of your beauties outdoors. Speaking of pics..I knew I forgot to do something today! DOH!!
