Welcome to the forums! You had me at Wild Turkey!

That's a good selection to start out, nice variety. Those are mostly strong and highly flavored snus, except for the Oomph! ones. Everybody is different, but my wife uses the Oomph! 6mg. I like the flavor, but I don't like mini's.

Enjoy your new snus, and new friends!

      Welcome Karanya!

In my experience, The Oomph is basically salt free. It's also moisture free! I actually like all of Snus Butiken's offerings and am enjoying Wine & Dine as I'm typing this. Oden's Cinnamon would be next in the less saltiness catagory followed by Roda Lacket, Claq Qui and Gotland's Flader. Onyx's predominant flavor is salt so, it's going to be the saltiest. Just remember, it takes a bit of time but, you'll get used to the saltiness and after a few weeks, you'll begin to taste the actual flavors that we all have described.

If you're looking for light salt, give the new 01 &02 series a try. They're pretty light in the salty taste department.

      Happy Snusing!

Thanks guys! All the replies have given me a pretty good idea of what to expect.

Whoever said I probably picked the portion I would like the least out of the General sampler was right. I had been given the impression (on another forum) that anything stronger than a mini was going to send me to the bathroom puking. Otherwise I would have gone for the original or white...

I suspect I'll wind up trying everything within the first few days, anyway. I'm way too curious for my own good Don't worry, my brother's freezer will not be getting any more presents unless I manage to convince him that snus is not "chawin' terbaki" (as he puts it). When I went over to his house to show him the Discreet snus and (attempt to) get him to try it, he tried to give me an entire roll of Grizzly (American dip) he'd gotten for free and was saving in case of a dire nicotine emergency! LOL

Welcome! I'm new here too, but received a very warm welcome. I figure we're all snusers, and we all started somewhere with it so questions come with the territory... I can tell you the questions I get from friends on cigars and beer, it feels good to help people find something they can enjoy. So get ya' snus on.

I've been pacing the floor waiting on two (recent) orders from GetSnus and Northerner to arrive, but I was greeted today by a couple of unexpected samples. One was a freebie can of General Wintergreen my husband ordered last week and I'd forgotten about; the other was a sampler from General that I ordered over a month ago but got a "Sorry, we can't verify your age" screen. Curious.

Anyway, until today all I'd had was lots of samples of Discreet and a harrowing experience with a General Mini Mint (way back in mid-August).

The Discreet made a pretty gentle introduction to snus but I was really tiring of sweet, sweet, sweet (or mint that burns like the fires of hell).

It appears that my fear of the salt was unfounded, unless General white and original portions are unusually low in salt. I should've known, I'm kind of a saltaholic anyway. Sure, I can taste the salt, but I was expecting more like.. I dunno, cramming an extra-salty potato chip in my lip.

Instead I get what tastes like a lightly salted cup of warm Earl Grey tea. Did I mention I'm a saltaholic? Others might put sugar in their tea.. I always drank it hot with a pinch of salt! LOL

One question - is the portion material on General snus typical for Swedish products? Because as tasty as Discreet is (at least for dessert), the General pouches are like gossamer to Discreet's burlap.

                --K

P.S. I'm definitely getting more nicotine from the General. The headache and brain fog I've had since I quit smoking on August 7th (switched to e-cig, then e-cig + Discreet) has finally subsided.

General is good, not even the best material out there.

I suspect you were just motivated, much like me when I first had my first ever snus, Ettan. I went into it knowing that it would be different, and didn't mind the salt at all.

                  STILL

Just know that what you are tasting today will not be as it tastes to you in a month. Even if you don't mind, your body is still being overwhelmed with the salt, and blocks the real taste of the tobacco that should be coming through.

So shorter way of saying...I am glad it is working right from the start for you, but it will get so much better soon.

Better is good, though even if this is how it always is, I'll be a happy camper.

It IS hard to imagine being overwhelmed by salt in any sense, though. I'm on a strict 10,000mg of sodium diet as it is. (No, really. Doctor's orders.)

In any case, I'm happy as a clam.

Yeah, I have always done salt too. As long as BP stays fine, what the he** do I care? So probably reason I too didn't really mind at all from day one. But just be prepared for such a fuller taste soon as the salt taste recedes.

You have a real interesting mix coming. All over the map, a good idea of what is really out there.

*grin* Yeah, my concern is keeping my BP up rather than down, and the salt can't be anything but helpful for that.

Thanks! I was trying to get a nice variety of pretty much everything that sounded appealing to me, and a decent mix of nicotine levels to figure out exactly what I need.
