That would tend to use more electricity since you'd be bringing it up from a warm state every day. If you use the mini fridge, I'd just keep it plugged in.

thanks. i wouldnt think it uses that much electricity anyway, but what do i know? the answer is nothing. my fridge doesnt have like a temp setting, but its got a little dial and i dont know what i should set it to. right now its at 4 which is a little over halfway to the max coldness, seems reasonable. im thinking i could even lower it a bit.

Fridge setting doesn't matter so much. I set mine to make my drinks as cold as I like :^) The snus tins say 8C(46F) on the bottom. Use a thermometer to check, but I wouldn't worry about it.

cool man, im totally psyched about this mini fridge. my sons crib is in my bedroom so my room is now babys room, so i have this storage room where i piled boxes in the corners and cleared a small area for my video game chair, tv and xbox, and now my mini fridge where my snus, tonic water, beer and ice tray, and optionally snacks will reside. im so stoked.

            Refrigerating Open Snus

Should I put a open portion can in the fridge in between use or is this a bad thing to do?

              Hi, Tap. Welcome.

I like to keep my opens cool as much as possible. As long as you keep the lid on, they should be fine.

Vets will be along to correct me if I'm wrong, in short order

              Enjoy your stay.

Edit: You don't *have* to put them in the fridge. It depends on how long they last. A few days in air conditioning is fine. I'm in Florida and don't even always have the AC on when I'm gone, so I usually stash them in the fridge.

                Welcome to the forums!

I freeze unopened cans, keep open cans in the fridge at home, and at room temperature when I'm out.

I think that's the standard way of keeping snus. Some people have mini-fridges for their office, but I don't take it that far...

                  tap9981, welcome to Snuson.

My standard practice is freeze unopened cans. I hoard snus, have over 80 in the freezer, have let some frozen go a year past best by date no issues.

Open cans that I am just going through never hit the fridge again.

The only cans I keep in the fridge is snus I might use one a day of.

There is no need to put a snus in the fridge if you are using it. Mine stay by my bed for 3 -6 days, no issues. *Some* people just really prefer cold snus. You do, put it in the fridge, either way it will be fine

Thanks for all the replies already. This is day 1 for me going cigarette free. I ordered two tins of General White Portion and it has really made my cig craving non-existent. I just ordered the 10 tin Sampler from Northern to see what I will like and dont like.

Congrats! Snus is a great way to kick the smokes!

If you fall off the wagon and have a cig, or two or three, don't feel like you've failed. Just keep using snus, and the urge to smoke will eventually disappear.

Just know. What you are tasting today, you won't taste in a few weeks. Just takes about a week to 10 days for most folks to aclimate to the salt. After, the taste of salt drops to the background and you can really taste the tobacco.

Once you get the sampler, have had a few weeks using, let us know what you are liking and we can give advice from there.

Don't overstress the cigarette thing. If you really want to smoke, just smoke. But keep using snus. Over time, the snus will win, I promise. We have had hundreds and hundreds here quit smoking with snus. Best part, they didn't even have to try. It just happens.

And welcome to your wonderful journey. Don't be shy asking any questions you have, what we are here for.

Hey welcome and congrats. I personally don't like cold snus (I don't like cold drinks either). I keep my unopened in the freezer until a day or two before I use them, then put them in the fridge to thaw when I want them. Once opened they don't go back in the fridge (unless it's rarely used like Sage said). I just found a 1/2 can of Roda Lacket I forgot I had in my computer bag. It has to have been there for a month not cold. Although it was a little dry, it tasted like new when I popped on in.

Of course this is white portion, portion or los is probably different.

I keep my "in-use" cans out at room temperature. I used to keep them refrigerated whenever possible, but soon found I much preferred the texture of the snus when it wasn't chilled.

This is especially the case with los. When I pull a can out of the fridge it's just a little too stiff and crumbly for my taste. Many times this results in a cold rock-hard pris and just isn't comfortable. Once it warms up, the moisture level seems much higher and it's nice and malleable. It almost immediately "melds" to the form of my lip after putting it in and feels so much better on the gums.

Edit: Almost forgot, welcome to the forums tap9981!

I think the important part of this is that snus should be kept cool while in storage or the quality will decrease. The moisture level and ph will both slowly decrease the longer snus is kept at room temperature. Frozen snus will last basically forever and warm snus will become "stale" over weeks or months. Thats what Markus and Joakim said.

Mod's - Sticky this thread or one like it? I can't remember how many times I've seen a similiar one pop up with exactly the same stuff.
