Sage, with all due respect this PACT act is getting like my sex life so you have to try to appreciate my situation. One minute its looking up, the next its looking down.

I mean to put it in an analogy maybe you can appreciate. Did you ever spend an evening rock hard and expecting some action only to find out you're left on your own just hours later? Plus I do suffer depression and if this damn PACT act actually goes through and the worst case scenario holds true and I have to start dipping fiberglass chew again, I'm going to shit my pants right here "LIVE" on the internet.

Good analogy Lazer - I remember my neighbor asking me about nicotine lozenges before and I told him that it feels like j**king off when you really want sex. It does the job but its not quite the same.

I swore I would never go back to dip and I meant it. This will be the end for me. But not before I spend an entire paycheck stocking up for the next year.

Maybe there is a silver lining here and the snus companies will start selling in America more.

If you resort to buying retail from brick and mortar shops, snus will be no cheaper than cigarettes....probably about 7 bucks at least per can.

If the online option remains available, which there is no reason to believe it won't be, you will probably see about a 35% increase in cost for snus here in California.....sucks a big donkey dick....but not the end of the world...and no reason to start smoking or dipping again.

The whole thing has me confused. I've read some of law-language version and they redefine what so many words actually mean it ends up making no sense a layman could make out.

From what I understand, this will prohibit businesses from using the USPS to conduct business to individuals. But it doesn't stop a business from shipping tobacco to another business, nor does it stop "non-commercial" shipping. Which I'm assuming is person-to-person shipping with no money changing hands.

                Am I understanding this right?

So the only shipping option left is UPS.....but didn't UPS already stop "voluntarily" shipping tobacco through it's service?

I just don't quite get where some people are thinking we are going to still be able to ship, but just have to pay the taxes. From what I can tell, you won't get it period unless it's from a brick and mortar store, or shipped to you from a friend.

Anyone able to shuffle through all the retarded jargon of the bill and tell us exactly what this situation is going to do? Is this a boon to UPS who will start shipping 'by the rules' so we have to pay an extra 20+ bucks for shipping AND taxes. Whut?

That's wrong. They hire idiots nowadays to write news stories that don't check their stories before they get printed. and then it gets repeated 1000s of times.

They voluntarily stopped shipping cigarettes, not tobacco.

Man I go away and leave you guys for one hour..............and now look :x

From what I've read and from what the industry folks are saying it looks like this will hit folks in the high tax states the hardest and all of us at least a bit. However, I do not believe this is the end of snus. My main order comes once a year. The last one I had to use UPS. It was the only option for a "bulk" order. Thus shipping should not really effect my main order (unless they jack up the price on Tobacco shipments- which is possible due to the extra hassle). That said, it will drastically reduce my smaller orders throughout the year. I think this is where the snus sites will get hit the hardest.

SC tax is 7%. Thus I'll see a small increase here. But nothing unbearable. Of course there could always be other fees and taxes I don’t know about.

So in the end, for me, the impact could negligible or it could be significant. We just don't know right now. Best to keep speculation and panic down.

Oh and Tristik, there is always Fed-X and DSL
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

Okay I was under the impression that they would not ship tobacco anymore. If this is just a tax thing than I can handle that.

But I don't get it, I already pay CA sales tax when I order from clubsnus. Are we talking about they will just add on all the tobacco taxes etc?

I can deal with that. Convenience stores jack everything up, I suspect our local suppliers will still be able to sell it cheaper than tobacco stores at least if you buy in quantity, since snus is their only product.

So I don't need to stock up for the snus apocalypse. Glad to hear. I have no problem with them enforcing the taxes that were legally levied on these products, though I will of course do anything and everything to evade said taxes, but I can't blame them for wanting to enforce it.

Sucks, I enjoy paying $2 a tin. I only spend about 60$ a month that way.

FISCAL YEAR 2009-2010 TAX RATE ON OTHER TOBACCO PRODUCTS
In accordance with section 30126 of the Cigarette and Tobacco Products Tax Law, the Board,at its April 15, 2009 meeting, approved a tobacco products tax rate of 41.11 percent.Distributors will be required to apply this rate to all distributions of tobacco products, other than cigarettes, for the period July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010
I think that 41.11% is based on the wholesale price :?:

you disappoint me sgreger. and I only pay about $300 a year between snus and snuff. But I will not believe that this is the end. These are only the first salvos in our direction. Not a direct hit now, but they will send in the smart bombs eventually.....
