Nictotine is a stimulant at first but too much makes it a depressant. So you can keep using more and more stronger more often until you pass out.
Don't I know it. When I was using both strong snus AND electronic cigarettes, that first day I nearly went into a stupor, couldn't walk properly and my speech was slurred, and yes I just about passed out.
When I first started with snus I couldn't go to bed on time because I loved it so much. Just kept saying "ok one more and I'm really going to bed" over and over all night. So I started sleeping with snus in and have no trouble getting to sleep now. Been doing it for years now.
I cant sleep if I snus to much before bed ut cigs dont affect me in the same way. Something about snus can get my heart and mind going but dip and cigs didnt do that to me
When Offroad LG WG was available, I use to use a big lip of that until I felt satisfied, brushed my teeth and went to bed. Almost like that last smoke.
I wish you could still get a standard strength long cut snus like OR WG, Thunder is too strong for me to pack a decent lip.
You possibly might not be getting enough nic?? and your body is craving and keeping you up.

Get some nasal snuff or weaker snus (mini portions or make mini lös prillas) for use before bed, or don't use snus an hour before bed if possible.
This is what I do, use skruf mellan, purified portions or 4mg minis from 6pm onwards. I have had real problems with insomnia from snus and as a result have had to quit it several times and go back into either smoking or nrt. This time I have been more prudent with my usage and tailor my intake dependant on what time of day it is or what I'm doing. For example, I only ever use ESs once a day, first thing in the morning. Then its onto 8mg-12mg portions or 8mg lös, until 6pm, then i wind down.
From what's can gather, it's the method of delivery that causes sleep problems with snus; the drop-off of nic from smoking is shear, which is what makes it such an addictive form of use, but snus is absorbed by the mucosa of the mouth and it stays in your system and drops off much more slowly.
Definitely try the minis route, or skruf mellan, R&J señoritas are worth a try, at 5mg (if you can get them)
Snus is pretty strong stuff I've noticed even when using 8 mg portions. And yes, nicotine is indeed a very strong stimulant. Perhaps the uptake speed and absorption is different with dip and snus, and thus making snus acting more as a stimulant and making it harder for you to fall asleep. Remember also that the nicotine from snus stays a long time in your blood, if you compare it to other tobacco products (don't know about dip though).

I've been sleeping with snus in for years, so I can't really tell you if it causes insomnia. I will agree that dip wears off fast when you take it out, where snus seems to have a brief period of sustained absorbtion after taking it out. Possibly the whole spit v. swallow thing? I'm thinking that you still have a good bit of nic being soaked in through your digestive tract even after taking the portion out.
I've seen quite a few threads on this subject around.... I posted my experience with sleep paralysis.... there's been sleep apnea as well (don't have...
