Somebody, please tell me why 60 minutes decided to use some nicotine freak as the official snus spokesperson and not one of the thousands of people that actually quit smoking or cut way back? It would have been a fantastic public service had they chosen to report about the reality of snus rather than use some oddball who chooses to use snus, nicotine gum, patches, mints, cigs or whatever all at the same time. Had they simply told the truth, we could have easily had 10,000 more success stories in this forum.

I didn't want to start a new thread, but I'm so glad I found snus. I had my first portion about 2 weeks ago and I'm having a hard time forcing myself to finish the carton of cigs I bought awhile ago. I'm at the point where I force myself to light up, get halfway through, my lungs start tightening up, my mouth lets me know what I'm tasting is awful, and I put it out. Then I pop in a portion, swish the air around in my mouth and sigh happily. My gums are rather sore (still getting used to the near-constant irritation) but my oral hygiene has actually improved. I'm much more obsessive about brushing (and not brushing so hard!) and flossing. I've also found (this may be unique to me) that my soda addiction was directly related to my cigarette addiction. I think I used soda as a way to wash the nasty smoke taste out of my mouth whereas water always made it seem worse to me. Now, I'm drinking way more water and enjoying it! I'm working overtime hours right now and love the fact that I can enjoy my nicotine while at my desk. All around, my world seems to be looking much brighter.

Of all the good things I've mentioned so far, I just realized that one of the main reasons I decided to switch didn't even make that initial list. Money saving. Even with post-PACT taxes in a high tax state, I figure I'm cutting my nicotine habit costs in half at least.

Thank you Sweden. And thank you everyone in the forums for all the advice and well wishes and welcomes. I really, truly wish the government would look into this and see all the positive that this product can do for people. Common sense and unbiased research need to be making these decisions; not biased politicians looking to curry favor with big money corporations.

I thought I was unique in my soda addiction fading away. Interesting to read someone else talking about it. I drank nearly 100% Dr Pepper in the many years I smoked. Water never seemed to do it for me, now I drink nearly 100% water... I think some of this comes from the salty flavor. My mouth actually craves water now.

I used to drink a 6 pack of Coke a day, now it's one every two weeks. When I want something sweet I drink lemonade made with RealLemon Juice, sugar and water, the rest of the time I drink mostly water.
