I just had a thought. I've been seriously considering quitting snus, mainly because I have noticed apparant gum recession on my top teeth since I have used snus, for about a year.
I am now thinking, that this may have been different, if I had not kept the portions in for so long. I never considered the 2 aspects. I have always kept a portion in over an hour, usually an hour and a half. I know I am not alone in doing this, as the consideration of how long has always been debateable, left to personal preference. I always kept them in that long, because for me, the flavor kept. Those who say they keep them in shorter periods of time, say, usually, that the nic is absorbed, so no reason to keep it. I've always just went by flavor preservation.
But, now I am thinking, the length of time I kept portions in, may have been the main factor of my snus-related gum recession. I know I can't go back in time, but I am thinking if I had kept the portions in for like 15-30 mins, my gums may not be as affected now.
So, this is a gum health, and a nubie topic for consideration. I think it may be better for your gums to keep a portion in 15-30 mins, instead on over an hour at a time.
This is just my new opinion based on my experience, others will have their own.

I actually started to post this same topic myself. I'm not quitting, but I do plan to cut down. My gums have seen better days. I seriously brush 3 times a day now. It really isn't helping. I've always prided myself on having nice teeth.
I usually keep a portion in around 2 hours. Probably not good.
So in ligh of PACT and health reasons, I'm cutting back.

Usually about 20 minutes. This goes for bottom lipping longcut or dip also. Might be why I dont have any frontal recession. The dentist said a week ago I had a serious area by the back molars I needed to floss more but everything else looks the same with over two years of snus use.
If I had to make a list of what is hardest on the gums in would go in this order.
1)sugar-mainly pop, but anything with added sugar
2)acid based fruit drinks and fruits, especially orange juice
3)smoking and smoking mary jane
4)age
5)snus for extended times in one place

When I get the nicotine I am pretty much done but also the drive to work is about 20 minutes, so I pop one in and then out. Well I see a periodontist every three months 'cos well my mouth is under repair. Dip wreaked havoc on my lower front gums but three years into the snus and there's no recession to the upper front ones. In fact I've started rubber tipping the gums every morning in the shower. I've been doing this for almost a year now and they are all getting better. I don't floss often, but when I do I notice that my mouth feels even better yet. I think exceptional oral hygiene will mitigate any recession.
Also, I've noticed that los always slips down to the gumline, but my portions stay packed nicely up in the snus pocket (which is considerably bigger now) and off of that bottom part of the gums. I would suspect that los users experience more recession than portion users.
I still keep my snus in for 45-60 minutes, occasionally longer, but then again sometimes it's 20 minutes too. depends on many things. Still swap sides each and every time too.

I noticed on my upper left k9 gum recession after about 6 months of using General Extra Sterk Lös on that gum. however I used to always have snus right over the gum line where it meets my tooth. I have since made sure snus never crosses the gum line and have not had gum recession whatsoever in the last year.Snus and Dip Video Reviews
