Granted, this a gross oversimplification, but historically, liberals tend to favor greater personal freedom and less economic freedom, while conservatives tend favor greater economic freedom and less personal freedom.

IMO, all politicians act in basically the same way. They just take one side or the other so that we feel like our voting system influences government. The two party system is unfortunately just another way of dividing and conquering. If it was really about choice there would be 10, 20 parties to choose from.

I, too, wish that we had a truly multi-party system as I feel neither party truly represents my views. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen. There's too much power and money in the hands of the two parties.

Minnesota is one of the most if not the most liberal blue states in the USA and I have experienced nothing but less personal freedom as the years go on. From taxes, tobacco laws, alcohol laws, marijuana laws, park and recreation laws, homeowner laws and basically a clampdown on anything fun.

When I travel to Nevada it is like I am in a completely different country with all the personal freedoms and they are a Red state.

While I cannot argue your anecdotal evidence (as I've never visited either), I will reiterate that what I said was a generalization. When taken as such, it remains true.

I have heard that so many times but after living here for so long I dont believe the personal freedom part one damn bit. For the most part I fall somewhere in the middle politically but always vote third party so I am at least taking my stand against the one party system.

Consider this:
If Ron Paul had run as a third-party candidate, he wouldn't have received one-tenth the attention, nor been able to get his message out as much as he did.

"Third Party Candidates" are better off when they compete from within the system, not competing against the system.

I am not even a Ron Paul supporter, but I admire him for taking his "third-party" views to the 2-team playing field -- rather than staying on the sidelines (which is where third-party candidates have been, and will probably stay).

Tobacco prohibition is already happening. The FDA is considering "limiting" the amount of nicotine in tobacco products. This will result in a public health catastrophe; smokers will inhale more "tar" to get their nicotine fix. There is no proof that nicotine is any more harmful than most naturally occurring chemicals; removing the nicotine will only make smokers go through more cigarettes per day, increasing the death toll that plagues cigarette smokers.

Eventually, inch by inch, nicotine will be removed from tobacco by Big Brother. Once the limit is near zero, I wouldn't be surprised if all tobacco products get taken off the shelves.

What I mean by harmful is the overdose level. It takes a very large amount of nicotine to fatally overdose; its actually impossible to get a fatal amount nicotine in the blood circulation by smoking or snusing. To get a fatal overdose, one must inject the nicotine directly.

I voted for Alan Keyes in '08. He got only 15,000 votes in California.

I would love to see a libertarian candidate get elected. We have the CEO of Ebay running for governor in California, and her agenda sounds very libertarian. Interesting to see where this goes.

Government can't use addiction as an excuse when coffee, OTC medicine, and chili cheese fries are around.

My opinion? I "Believe" a tobacco ban will be tried, don't know the outcome though, while marijuana will be made fully legal and taxed (and possibily attempt to re-ban because now more people are doing it and its public, there is going to be more marijuana related deaths/injuries/illness). Probably in 10-30 years give or take.

Meg Whitman has libertarian views? Which ones? Last time I checked she favored not changing the public school system and keeping the "sensible" gun laws :roll: we have in place in California. In my opinion, all of the gubernatorial candidates are pretty liberal. Brown's views on guns and maybe Poizner's views on taxes (barely but he has the highest chance of limiting increases/reducing the tax burden on individuals) are the only two slightly conservative/libertarian positions in the race.

I don't foresee tobacco being banned. Too many people have interests in it for it to be banned outright. I would not be surprised if a large tobacco black market formed though.

Also since this is my first post my Snus of choice is General White or Los. I haven't tried to many so recommendations are welcome. :lol:
