When I stopped smoking altogether and used snus and snuff exclusively, I had really bad diarrhea for the first week or so. I just felt generally "blah" the whole week anyway, and had flu-like symptoms and grey skin. It was all of the smoke-related toxins leaving my body that caused it, not the snus, because I had been snusing for the last two years and never had a problem.

Thanks Lucky that makes me feel a lot better, I guess one good thing, I got to read the message board a lot while I was sitting.

Don't you wish that the snus companies would send out printed catalogs like the Cigar and Pipe Tobacco dealers do, so you can read about Göteborg Number 2 while you're doing Number 2?

        Sometimes I crack me up...

Seriously though. Give it some time and the shits will go away. It took me a good two weeks before I felt really "right" after I quit smoking. Some folks are the exact opposite- they get constipated when they quit. It all depends on the way your metabolism adjusts after your body starts repairing itself. I notice the heavier smokers go through the worst metamorphoses. I smoked over two packs a day of Lucky Strike filterless for the last ten years, and a pack a day for the ten years before that. I had a LOT of cleaning up to do. My GF, on the other hand, smoked for less than two years, and aside from general bitchiness, she went through little physical change.

I, on the other hand, missed three days of work and stayed on the couch all week with an icepack on my head. I had the runs for ten days, phantom rashes, sore throat, coughing up all kinds of garbage, runny nose, migraine headache, yellow eyes, really bad depression and nausea, etc. Prior to deciding on quitting the smoking, I snused maybe a can a week and snuffed a can every two weeks. On top of two packs a day, that was a LOT of nicotine I was getting, and it gave my body quite a shock. I'm now down to two cans of snus a week and a can of snuff every two months. I suggest that if anyone was that hardcore a smoker, wait until your vacation to quit smoking, because it really threw me for a loop.

I'm with you on that one! I was glad to have some "loosening" when I first started snus. Now I'm back to normal....well...normal for me anyway....

Best thing for "the trots" I've found is water water water, and some nice whole grain intake. Ex. Bread, crackers, pasta.

*Mother of 3! Had to "fix tummies" a LOT!
Thanks for the tips! I've been trying to drink more water (instead of all the soda/coffee I usually chug), but it goes right through me. I guess I have a pretty small bladder, but seriously, having to pee every half hour or so is pretty ridiculous. Damn water!

As for more fiber, I guess I should start making myself more Vivanno blends on the side while I'm at work. Those things make me fart like crazy, though, and my co-workers certainly don't appreciate it--they're RANK. I think they actually banned me from having any more Vivannos, actually. ...But strawberry-banana's coming, and I MUST HAVE MY FIBER.

I get it if I use snus after a meal. I wish I knew what caused it.

Been pretty much smoke free for a couple weeks.
A strong portion right after eating has me running to the can.
              Don't do that any more.

Well after two weeks things have settled down. Not sure if one particular snus did it or just all of them together. I've actually increased my snus use and it hasn't come back.

Every time I've tried to quit smoking, my problem has been constipation.

This time I'm trying a new product called Align. It's available over-the-counter at most drug stores and is supposed to help with both diarrhea and constipation. So far, so good.

If anybody is having a continuing problem with either condition, I'd suggest seeing a doctor. It may be something simple, but why take the chance?

That happens to me sometimes, but most of the time I'm fine. If I drink a lot and eat too little, that's usually the result. Of course, I think that's normally how it works anywise. Still, I usually have to use the bathroom at least once per pris, but as long as I ate well that day, it's all good.

I think nicotine can have a laxitive effect, as well as coffee.

SO.... a pot or two of coffee and chain snussing extra starks will clean out the pipes right?

Put me down as a victim....I haven't smoked a cigar in about a week and have been snusing throughout the day and usually after my 1st pouch, you can find me in the bathroom wondering what the hell is going on! I think it's a combo of getting used to the snus and my diet...A few hashbrowns, a 20 oz coke, and some Catch and the rest is history. So I'll be trying more water now

I know that salt can cause a laxative effect sometimes. If I'm particularly dehydrated, I find that snus can have a laxative effect on me and wondered if it was salt related. Oh well, keeps me regular, lol.
