I'm quitting snus - this is my story

    I just quit using snus.

I have been using snus for almost seven years now and consider myself as a heavy snus user. On daily basis I used 10-12 regular og strong portions of snus. I have never smoked; my only habit is snus. Three days ago I decided to quit snus. I'm tired of being addicted to nicotine and the feeling of snus under my lip. I want to be free of this habit.

After three days I'm good without snus. I'm tired, yes, more than usual and I'm getting irritated over nothing, but I cope.

I would love to have some snus under my lip, but I wont. I know this will be hard and perhaps it will take several months, but I think the fight is worth is. This is a cold turkey and I wont use nicotine substitutes. My only drug will be regular gum.

I see this thread as my snus confessional and will update this thread regularly.

    Feel free to ask questions.

    Jean

    UPDATE 1:

Day 6. I'm still good, but I can see where I have problems.

I went to a fooball match this afternoon and I was craving snus and I'm studying right now and would love to have some. This is the times where I enjoyed snus. The nicotine is out of my blood, but my mind plays tricks on me.

I hope that I someday can enjoy snus at parties and when I'm having a beer with friends. This way I will get the nicotine rush every time.

    Thanks for all your support.

Thanks. I know it's strange to quit snus at a snus forum, but where should I quit if not here where I learned to snus...

Good luck to you my friend!

3 days and the nicotine should be out of your system.

I would think from here on out the fight will be with the things you have built an association with snus (be it stress relief, drinking, out on the town, etc.....)

Anyway we wish you the best
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

Best of luck! Quitting nicotine is easy. The tough part is not to start again.

Yup. I quit about 10 minutes ago. We'll see how it goes after I make my Spam/egg/cheese sandwich :^D

                Edit:
I started again. The sandwich was delicious though :^)

Quitting is easy once you have managed to break the psychological bond that keeps you tied to snus. There is a lot of psychology behind every habit. Now that you say you don't like the physical presence of snus under your lip and you have grown out of approving the use of nicotine, it should not be hard for you to adjust physically... as soon as your mind is ready your body will retune itself into whatever lifestyle your mind wants it to follow.

As to me I am not quitting because my mind does not want me to.

Good luck quitting! Just keep working at it, and once you've got it all out of your blood, you should be home free. If you can make it through the first week, you should be over most of the withdrawals. I'd imagine the rest would be mental.

It would be a nice feeling to be free of any/all addictive substances.
