    2 quick questions

I have been using snus for about 1 and a half years (since i turned 18 in order to quit smoking) and i have noticed that my gums sting after using one side only for 2-3 weeks. it starts with a mild stinging and then gets progressively worse until its bad enough for me to switch sides. I am using only General loose, about 3 cans a week (my tobacconist gives me an 18% discount on general los if i buy 10 cans at a time) is there a better loose snus that doesn't irritate the gums so much? I enjoy natural flavored snus such as grov or general, and I really like the saltiness of General.

    tl;dr? my gums hurt.

oh, and also i have a dried up can of loose that expired 8-10-11. how can i rehydrate this, and if i do, will it be bad to use it?

I alternate sides with each portion I use. I've been snusing for years and haven't ever had any issues.

Re-hydrating snus? I don't know that I would even bother with it unless I was completely out and hard up. Snus is usually 50+ percent water so I guess the technical way would be to weigh out what you have left and add it's own weight in water. I'd use purified water if I were to do that. You could get adventurous and use something like gin or whiskey though :P

I am not sure if there would be any health issues from re-hydrating snus but you never know!

I remember my gums used to sting at first, but not after a year and a half! Do what Ainkor says and switch sides more often, also switch brands, maybe try portions for a while, and switch sides

Swedish Match snus is hard on my gums. I think might be the salt, but I don't know. You can rehydrate snus. I don't know how good it'll be if it's very dry, but it shouldn't be harmful. It's cheap enough to find out.

i just put some tap water in it. it doesnt taste as strong as fresh snus, but it gets the job done i guess.
The saltiness is one of my favorite things about General, the mint portions dont seem to be as hard on my gums, but loose is just more economical.

Does Jakobssons make a mint strong loose? I got 2 cans of their strong mint portions one time, and really enjoyed them.

Nope. The last lös product they make is Gotland Grå. It's a shame. They're the premier makers of lössnus, but they don't seem interested. To busy chasing the portion monkeys. I wouldn't want to see the mint as a lös anyway. I think it works well as a portion, and lössnus should be reserved for more traditional flavors. If there's any market, it's in the traditional sector. I don't think flavors would sell particularly well.

              ^^^ +1000

Couldn't agree more. No los on the market comes ANYWHERE close to the quality of gotlands. very sad the don't make more varieties of los. I got really excited with the samples they sent out, but i guess they're not manufacturing any of those.

              sorry for hijack

I concur. I use Jakobsson's Strong Classic and Wintergreen all day and never feel a thing, then pop in a General WP and after an hour have to remove it and rinse my mouth out.

I would try switching sides more often. I chain snus and alternate sides with every new pris (and also throw in a few lower lippers from time to time)

It might be the salt in General.........or it might be that the snus is a bit on the dry side

How fresh is the snus your tobacconist carries?
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

Never had any stinging sensations on my gums from using snus.

The only problem I had was from DIP when I had a tooth cavity and put dip in, it hurt me like hell.

Snus on the other side is harmless on my gums.

Could be the PH, as some of you know I have been researching the whole PH thing and my buddy who uses snus finds the snus brands that are high in PH bother his gums and make them red and irritated, But snus that has a lower PH 8-8.5 don't give him issues.

General and other Sweedish Match products generally have 8.6 - 8.8 PH which bothers the heck out of my throat my brothers throat, and my friends gums.

Try a lower PH snus like gotlandssnus los or phantom, when I test other brands PH I will know of more lower PH brands.

general never gives me a throat problem, but i was gutting dip and smoking before i switched completely to snus, so that may be why. possibly just different body chemistry too i guess. ill give that gottlands a try.
my tobacconist usually has the oldest snus in the mini fridge, so i make him go to the fridge in the back and get me the freshest stuff he has when i buy it, but i buy like 20+ los cans at a time, and usually the last 5 or so are expired by the time I get to them.
but they are frozen, so... they are still good.

sorry for my stream of consciousness posting style lol

I have started putting los dead center on the top where my frenulum used to be. It will bother me if I do it consistently for a day or two but I still use portions on the side, alternating sides each portion.

The trick it seems is to switch it up......which I need to practice better with los.

maybe i should try to slow down with the los as well... usually i dont go longer than it takes me to eat or sleep without having a fat pris of los in. hardcore addict mode. I am far more addicted to snus than I ever was to cigarettes or dip.
