We'll see. I'll bet you a can of snus that August and September employment increases (not counting census jobs - those are fake and I'm not sure when they end).

The problem danielan is that a few of us have bills to pay like mortgages and car payments. I can see why someone would prefer to remain on unemployment rather than take a lowing paying job at a temp agency when those jobs are actually available. People are willing to work and change jobs but they also have to make ends meet or things can often get worse. When you have a family, it isn't that so easy to throw your crap in the care and move elsewhere. Also, may states have regulations that discourage people drawing unemployment from taking lower paying jobs or re-training. I see your point about people should be willing to work but this economy is very rough!

I gotta agree with danielan here. Unemployment of 20% in manty of our counties yet I see help wanted sign everywhere I go.

No one is saying rocket scientists should flip burgers, that's silly. Like danielan said, you know lots of math and science and if you a go getter you will take those skills to somewhere that there is demand for math and science.

I don't think there should not be unemployment checks though, it takes time especially in an economy like this, but 2 years is too long. Right now here at ucsc we have graduates who are waiting 2 years to get a job. They are c students who got a chemistry degree and want to be a chemist. Problem is all the a students are soaking up those jobs, so the kids wait around for years blaming the recession. Meanwhile they have just spent 2 years not being gainfully employed, which is never good.

When I was unemployed I was out never ****ing day looking for money. I didn't even know unemployment checks existed. I reigned in my expenses and I looked for money and I found it.

I have a family and I throw my bag on an airplane twice a week, pretty much every week to go make a living.

That's why 2 years was pretty much ok with everyone. Myself included.

2 years is a LONG time.

Yeah, my first 2 choices would have been Mocca Macchiato or that Catch Vanilla Mint.

But, yeah, cans to be named later.

So like I said I didn't even apply for benefits, maybe I shoulda then I'd have a reason to worry, but I'm not, but let's consider the hard workers who had to....

I agree but this economy has been in the tank for a long time and I completely agree with your work ethic. I myself spend at least 1.5 hours commuting to work each way 5-6 days a week because there are no jobs where I live. At the same time, I think everybody's situation is different. A 50 year old or a felon is going to need more time to look for work than someone who is young and has a clean record. There are also a lot of people in construction right now who are unemployed but lack the skills to go into an office or technology based job. Also, slightly off topic, but why are conservatives so eager to kill a jobs bill but so quick to finance wars? They are killing subsidized employment before it even has a chance to work.
