sorry. i was drinking and i saw the title of the thread and i thought i'd kill it. i'll take it to the hospital and see if it's still alive. my mistake. ops:
Who is the Juda to this thread? Who has the brains the balls and the willpower to stop this thread...no one. No sword weilding penguin thats for damn sure sir! I love how I guess I get to be the guy laying dead with his throat cut and yet no one seems to care about my well being...gee...thanks...
Wow ctimb, I never knew the penguins disliked you so much! I am sorry for your early demise
But that's a damn funny way to die! They'll be talking for years to come!
40 years from now, Sage with his head a little grayer, and forehead smear a little darker will say, "Hey, you remember ctimb?". And I'll be like, "Yeah, he's that poor bastard that got his throat sliced up by an f'ing penguin! I sure miss his silly ass!".
R.I.P. Ctimb, may you not have died in vain. Oh and say "what's" up to MJ for me! 8)
Yes, REALLY ugly surgery. Doctor warned her that it is one of the most painful aftermath's to a surgery out there and he wasn't lying. For the first 4 days, she had this contraption that held ice water that routed the water to her shoulder area. Even with Oxycontin, she was miserable when the ice ran out.
Laura was involved with Roller Derby. One of the first members of the Carolina Rollergirls, one of the oldest Roller Derby teams around. This was before we even had our bout and she had a chance to go hang with the Texas Rollergirls, the first ever. Texas also had a banked track league and Laura was so excited to skate the banked track. She did the whole practice, falling drills, everything. She was on her warm-down laps at the end of practice when she caught a skate on the boards and it flipped her down. Being that it was a banked track, she fell at a more severe angle.
I first got a call that said she had dislocated shoulder, and remember being upset as that can be a nasty ongoing thing. She called me two hours later to say it was broken, and bad. They ended up having to put her under anesthesia just to massage the parts back into a reasonable place for her to go travel. But she still went to the after party that night, she is one tough bi***.
Next day, she flew home and we were at the surgeon the next morning. He said he would try and reconstruct her shoulder, but with it broken in 6 places, he was doubtful he could so the shoulder replacement thing was a known possibility.
Surgery was like 5 hours. They rebuilt the shoulder but concluded it wouldn't work well, so replaced it. the artificial shoulder is cobalt-chromium. Yes, she has a not for the airport. But scary thing, she has yet to set off a metal detector, and it has been at least 5 years now.
Doctors warned her that she probably would never be able to raise her hand above her shoulder. But Laura wanted to skate again so THREW herself into her rehab. My sister is an orthopedic surgeon at Stanford, specializing in Sports medicine. has been a team doc for both the San Francisco 49'ers and the San Jose Sharks. She warned Laura that the biggest thing her patients did to harm themselves was overdoing the rehab. Laura had to build the ligaments up before she could even begin rebuilding muscle. Laura listed, and did exactly what her doctors said.
Laura did skate again. I waited until the 2nd practice before I showed up, and she had fallen again about 3 minutes before I got there. She said her arm "rang" when she fell. Followed up with the doctor after, and he finally told her that she was taking BAD risk by skating again. Just if she fell and broke the socket holding the artificial shoulder, he couldn't fix it a 2nd time. So she hung her skates up. That was REALLY bad, in fact, Laura waited for weeks before she even told me what he said. it was really then that our marriage started falling apart. Laura changed after all of this, and unfortunately, I wasn't part of those changes.
