Sgreger1: I know you're in a tough spot right now, and I understand your frustration. But, you should realise that people have varying opinions on all sorts of things, and even if you disagree with an opinion wholeheartedly, you should respect their opinion and calmly express your counterargument without letting emotions get the best of you (or simply say nothing at all).

Everyone else: Brush it off, and move on.

Actually, the subject was originally about the shooting near Texas A&M, but yeah, it's pretty much a thread about firearms now.

Like I said, I apologize for all that. The wife left me and I just got done talking with the police etc so I brought that anger into this thread, and was even more persistent about this topic than I normally am. Again I apologize. After that though everyone said that they would prefer a polite debate on the topic and exchange viewpoints from all sides. At that point I stopped with my machismo and just posted some studies and stuff that I thought would help shed light on why my side believes the way it does, pointing out that there is very little evidence that gun control has helped, but lots of evidence that gun control has hurt (at least here in the US, I can't speak on how Europe is doing things since I don't follow that). Then it turned into a "lol ur agruing against urself n00B!" kinda thing and aparently, per Extreme, there never was a debate to begin with so me posting studies and stuff on the subject we were discussing is just a dick waving contest and was apparently not well recieved. And apparently I pissed Whalen off in some previous thread so now he and Extreme think I am too exciteable and shouldn't be allowed to own a gun because I may be the next mass murderer. The whole thing has gotten really wierd. I'm sorry if I steped on anyones toes, I just wanted to bring some actual numbers into the conversation so that our friends in eruope can see why I so heavily am against banning guns. I wasn't the one who started this topic, I was just commenting on it like everyone else. Joe did his regular drive-by posting with sensational title "ANOTHER ONE FOR THE NRA!" etc and shit like that pisses me the **** off. At least TexasStorm sees where i'm coming from.

Was just going to say something similar, also the fact you came in and said that an entire continent was backwards as they didn't share your viewpoint ruffled a few up the wrong way. I think your situation last night, in my opinion, probably had a hell of a lot to do with it so you vented your anger on an unrelated subject on here, and you came in hard and fast!

I really think that we all need to draw a line under this now.

Sigh... Texastorm and SqueezyJohn and others were going back and forth arguing their various sides. I came in and tried to add to that by giving some sources so that we could have a better conversation and so that those in Europe could understand where people in the US are coming from and why we believe what we believe. I'm sorry I even got into it.

And also I feel really dumb but can you remind me what I said to Whalen in another thread that offended him? I'm sure I didn't mean to offend him personally, was it about guns?

I dont know, I am ok with one side of the debate spouting factless opinions because they are popular at the time. Its really shows society in its true light. Maybe only the few see it for what it is, but it is good knowing that your right.

You will never change someone brainwashed since birth to believe in statistics, or even facts. I mean it's like food, in some countries eating cats and dogs is ok, in some maggots that are still alive, but since birth I was taught not to eat the pets, and not to eat bugs, cause they are nasty. But I admit that I am biased, and these things might be very tasty.... however at this point in my life I am not changing.

That is how it is now in many countries with tough gun laws... they dont know any better, and at this point they are no longer willing to learn. Cant say I blame them.

This here statistics gathering is a bit like a dick waving competition that nobody else has time for apart from you.
Again our cultures show their differences. Here it is generally accepted that in a rational debate each side lays down their opinion and backs it up with some form of evidence. Aparently since I am the only one who provided evidence by spending 10 minutes on google, I am engaging in a dick waving contest. I guess over on your side of the pond rational debates are held in a different manner than I am not acustomed to.

You can only shoot someoneto protect life and limb. You can't shoot someone for coming on your property for example, but if they break into your house with guns than a reasonable person would feel that their life is being threatened and you are allowed to defend yourself in any way necessary, to include the use of deadly force. You may also use a firearm to defend the life of another should you find yourself in a situation where a criminal has a victim and is trying to kill them. Grenades don't serve a very "defensive" role like guns do, hence they are illegal.

I then went on to give several statistics regrding how many millions of poeple have been saved by defensive use of a firearm.

Because I get pissed off at someone in a forum for spouting what I believe to be complete nonsense with nothing to back it up, you would say that I shouldn't be able to possess a firearm? What is the test to determine how "highly excitable" someone is, and what threshold should be used to determine if one is of the optimum level of excitability to where they could be allowed to legally own a firearm?

Squeezy was not using "gut feelings"...he was simply speaking as a citizen of a country with gun control to give an alternative viewpoint which you are obviously so deeply uncomfortable with to the point of saying that we're not allowed to comment which is weird coming from a person that champions individual freedom.
Which thread did I make this comment on as I don't recall that? If you could refresh my memory I would appreciate it.

I said to stay out of US politics, because what works in your country does not work in ours. In this thread there has been a lot of "gut feeling" type things like "Don't you think that having a guna ccessible makes you more likely to kill someone when you wouldn't otherwise?". Nonsense like that which has repeatedly been disproven.

You guys have me feeling really bad now, I am sorry that I come across this way to everyone. I am a completely normal person and do not have some extensive gun collection either, I merely have a .38 revolver that my father bought in the 80's and gave to me, I dont go out of my way to obtain firearms as I live in a city where I don't feel threatened. I'm sorry I come off as "exciteable".

I am not "obsessive" about this subject, it just matters to me personally as someone who sees what our country is becoming and how they try to take away whatever rights they can at every turn. Be glad that you don't live in such a government. Just like with free speech, I am very dedicated to protecting these basic freedoms which I think all humans should have. Sorry if that makes me come across as some whacko or something, i'm really just a guy with a deskjob that pays his taxes and does what he has to do to get by.
