    Spicy Hot Sauce

Every forum needs a hot sauce thread. I found one on Hot Peppers, but it hasn't been posted to in a year, so I am starting a new one.

I am almost 60 years old and I love hot sauce, so I can't believe that I just discovered Sriracha Asian hot sauce, this week. I had seen and heard of it many times, but never actually tried it. I was a bit scared of it because everyone says it is so hot and because the rooster on the label looks very aggressive. It is really great stuff. I think it is so good because it is a little sweet. We also got some of the Sriracha Chili Garlic sauce, but I haven't tried it, yet.

My other favorites are Crystal for a traditional low-end sauce, and Louisiana if I can't get Crystal. Moving upscale a little, Frank's is wonderful. It is great for wing sauce, like they say, but it is also an excellent general purpose hot sauce.

Moving on up the scale some more, original Tabasco is really the standard. Some people say it is not hot at all, but it burns me about as much as most of the vaunted habanero sauces. I love it on barbecue, steak, and fried catfish (not at the same time).

My favorite habanero sauce is Yucatan Sunshine. I prefer good pepper flavor to blazing heat. I also enjoy Marie Sharp's and, occasionally, Melinda's. I really like the Melinda's pure ground habanero pepper, but I haven't seen any of it in several years. I especially get a kick out of the label: "Warning - THIS IS NOT A JOKE. ...", which goes on to describe just how hot it really is. Also, for low-end habanero sauce, I like the green El Yucateco.

    What are y'alls favorites?

!!!! Excellent thread! I myself am a hot-sauce connoisseur. My favorite hot sauce on the planet is Tapatio, which in CA is in almost every restaurant instead of tobasco. Next is cholula, but those are just my favorite maintstream hot sauces.

In the hippie/vegan stronghold of santa cruz, the local health food nut whacko store sells this one locally made hot sauce that is AMAZING.I forget the name of it though.

You just learned about cock-sauce (sriracha, but its all in japanese and has a rooster on the front so everyone I know calls it cock sauce lol)? Sriracha is the perfect hot sauce for any rice dish, or any asian food in general.

Do you like indian food? My local indian restaurant has a special indian hot sauce that is made from some kind of red oil and cauliflower, but it's amazing on noodles!

This is an amazing thread! I LOVE hot sauce...I don't really remember any specific brand names, well except good old tobacco haha. I do like to make my own habanero hot sauce/salsa. Its kind of a mix lol not liquid enough to be a traditional hot sauce, but not chunky enough to really be considered a salsa. It goes great on burgers lol

Hell, it burns like hell :-) It's my favorite, sometimes I have it on pizza and Soup ..

          I like Frank's as well...

I am a big fan of tortilla chips ... so I enjoy some extra tabasco in the tortilla dips.

I like Frank's for an everyday hot sauce. Not too hot, but it adds a lot of flavor. Tapatio is good, so is Sriacha. My wife is hooked on the Chinese black bean and chili sauce - she puts it on everything.

We toured the Tabasco factory in Louisiana we when were down there a few years ago. They have a little visitors center and a gift shop full of all kinds Tabasco products and clothing with the logo on it. The whole place smells just like the sauce. Well worth the time if you're in the area.

I really like Tabasco as my every day hot sauce. Their chipotle one is pretty tasty once in a while.

I used to put siracha on everything but I kinda got noted with it.

Blair's Death or Dave's insanity are good when I feel like poopin fire.

I also like the house made salsa verde that the Taco Bus (an authentic mexican restaurant in town makes). I tear through bottles of that when I pick one up.

When it comes to flavor and heat this guy I work with makes his own hot sauce that is awesome. He grows his own peppers and it is fantastic. His next batch will have ghost peppers in it. I already got a roll of tp in the freezer in anticipation.

                    Thank you.

I have been to a couple of Indian restaurants and, while it is generally good, I am not wild about it.

I tried that once about 20 years ago. I thought it tasted kind of strange, so I didn't keep using it. Maybe I need to try it again.

I did 5yrs as a sportfishing guide down in Costa Rica and the go-to hot sauce down there was Salsa Chilero. Great on fresh fish! Glad my mom and dad brought back a bunch from their last trip.

I'm a huge hot sauce fan, and I'll use it on almost anything. My standard workhorse sauce is plain old Tabasco. It's liquid enough to soak into food, but thick enough to stand up on it's own for cheese and crackers. Every sauce I use gets compared to Tabasco. It's the mildest I ever want to go, so if a sauce isn't as hot, it doesn't get bought again.

El Yucateco green is awesome. Delicious on tortillas and burritos, and great on cheese and crackers. It has a ugly brother that's a touch hotter, with no artificial color that I prefer when I can find it.

I got some hot sauce from South Africa once that was delicious. I can't remember the name, but the flavor was very unique. I got it from BigLots, and I'm hoping they get it again some time.

I used to buy Tropical Pepper Co. 4X Habanero, but I think they may have gone out of business. I haven't seen that in the store in forever. I stay away from "gourmet" sauces at pepper shops. A lot of them are garbage, and for what they cost, it isn't worth the gamble to me. I can go through a bottle of hot sauce in 4 sittings, so a $7 bottle of sauce doesn't cut it for me.
