You know roo, the thing is, You would have more work(ie job security or commissions) if they weren't treating the people you essentially work for(the common American traveler) as common terrorists and violating their inalienable rights........

I don't know how one arranges boat travel anymore, but that's because I arrange air travel. I understand that it's all a big hassle, and usually too expensive and terribly inefficient, but it sure is better to spend 6-15 hours traveling *really* far away on a plane with the airport bullshit and crappy onboard services than the alternative. Having said that, I am obsessed with boat travel and would love to go to Asia or beyond by sea someday. But just once... any other time I need to get more than 500 miles from my house, it's a hell of a lot more convenient to fly.
Well the thing is America is so super awesome why would I want to go anywhere else? That and everything on the west coast is earthquakes, hippies and starbucks, I hate all three of those so why would I want to go there?

The thing is 9/11 happening, prevented 9/11 ever happening again, as no group of passengers would sit there and let a plane get taken.

Another problem I have is statistically I am way more likely to die at home, on the road, or in a hospital than at the airport or on a plane, yet the latter are the most likely places I will get strip searched. Kind of counter logical.

I have the luxury of not needing to travel like that for my business and enough vacation time that I can travel the slow way, and enjoy it. In fact I would rather hop on the motorcycle before heading west, I am more likely to die doing that than flying there, but at least I have a better chance of avoiding an involuntary rectal exam than if I flew.

Well said. And plus they have air marshals now, no one is hijacking shit.

From now on I recommend that all posters here stop referring to airport security as airport security, "Security Theatre" is to be the new term to describe this fiasco.

But this all begs the question: Why is all this rage happening all of a sudden. Like shit like this has been going on for a while, and people have always hated it. How come all of a sudden, over like a 2 day period, all of the pilots band together to protest, all the media starts giving coverage to this issue, etc etc. The whole nation went from being quietly upset about this, to it being front page news in like a 2 day period. Kind of odd, and am wondering if it's just a distraction.

If I were rich, and had unlimited time, I'd never get on a plane again. I'd be totally down for transoceanic ship travel. Since I'm likely stuck here for the rest of my life, I'll use a train for the continent.

Drudge linking up infowars is why. And they've over played their hand. They presumed there would be a small push back, they never expected this shit. But their not backing down, and we've won no victory yet. This pistole guy is saying they aint stopping. People really need to just stop flying crash the commercial airline biz, screw em.......

They plan on having these things in train stations as well. If we don't stop them here, it's all over....... They'll be in malls and banks, and courthouses.... you name it.....

I almost don't care anymore tbh. AFAIC this country's washed up. Our short day in the sun is long gone, and we're on a steady decline. I've got ~40 more years here, which is about 37 too many, but I guess it could be worse. If someone's proposing pulling out the weapons you've got my interest, but going through the system won't work.

I'd be down with the guns as well. But there's no way we can win with guns. They've got the power and are building the structure of people who will do their dirty deeds for them for a few pieces of silver and the Illusion that their beyond the tyranny because of the illusion that they are a valued part of the system. Only thing we have is the power to change minds........... Without that we are "hopeless" but apathy is not the way to go....

My theory and experience of flying over these years is that people have already hit the boiling point with existing measures and these new pushe's for even more cattle control was the final tipping point. YOu are correct that these type of media/hypes are usually a distraction for some legislation that get's passed while nobody is watching but I am betting on this being very real for the moment.

I dunno, I feel like this is taking media time away from the waaay played-down issue of the feds continuing their endless fake money spree.

But i'm glad people are revolting. Theres too much money in it though, it will take a lot to get them to uninstall these things after they just put them there. It would look terrible for them.

I hope people boycot the airlines but in reality people need to fly and there is no other viable way unfortunately. In the 50's they could have never convinced the American people that it's okay for some kid to see your wife and children naked in order to be safe, but nowadays it's not big deal .

I don't work for commission, I'm not a travel agent. And I'm not defending the way the TSA treats regular joes and janes at the airport. It's bullshit. I'm just sayin', some of you are being such babies about this -- yeah it is really, really awful how the TSA treats all of us at airports -- but again, flying is extremely convenient if you have any interest and the means to get out of your state. Flying is a hassle, and our government (with the TSA and many more FAA factors) is making it much more so than it should be or needs to be, but it's also pretty great to travel all over the place in the time it takes you to lay down for a night's sleep. Or get to your buddy's or son's wedding in 4 hours when it takes 2 days to drive. Hell of a lot cheaper too.

I'm sorry, I don't see how standing up for our rights = "being babies"

I don't think anyone's complaining that traveling by air sucks. Traveling by air is my preferred method but it's, like you pointed out, quite a hastle nowadays. But no one disputes it is the most efficient way of traveling long distanced I think.

Another thing I've thought of is maybe a new slogan for TSA. The fourth amendment stops here b***h.
