Why they don't go after things children are "really" being harmed by, like abuse, neglect, bullying, on-and-on, is beyond me... oh wait, that's right... it's because they actually don't give a f*** about "the children". Sorry, I keep forgetting.

Well see fixing those problems doesn't increase revenue.

As a citizen of washington state I can't even imagine this they're seriously going to ban all flavored dip and dip pouches which have been around for almost thirty years. I can't believe they're banning pouches, flavored dip, and pipe tobacco. This is insane it's like deciding that camels should be banned because people will be less likely to smoke. This isn't clove cigarettes there're are probably 100,000 thousand people who use wg or mint dip which might not be banned, and probably even more who smoke flavored cigars mostly black and milds I'd say. Pipe smokers are fighting this pretty hard since although they might not personally like it 65 percent of pipe tobacco sold is aromatic. I can't imagine what it will be like when I walk in and 7-11 only has 10 brands of dip on their rack. As for snus this is basically the end of snus in the state if this passes. I still can't believe they're banning pouches that's absolutely insane, maybe we'll get to see an increase in sales of teabags and cheap tea.

You know why youth begin smoking?
Someone offers them a cigarette, then
          a) They like it and continue smoking them
          b) Run into peer pressure and must smoke
          c) Just smoke it because they want to seem cool.
a -> They like it and don't care about the addiction
b,c -> Complain about addiction, become politicians or anti-tobacco activists, and try ban all tobacco

So why so much nanny state? I don't see a problem here.

Also, you're talking about this spreading to other states, I'm worried it might hit EU..

hopefully US Smokeless Tobacco such as Skoal, who make many flavored dips will rally against this, I grew up in WA, and now live in Portland, I don't like the taxes, but its better than a WA ban.

And more bad news. Utah is pushing a bill that would outlaw all flavored smokeless tobacco and flavored electronic cigarettes liquid.

              http://le.utah.gov/~2011/bills/hbillint/hb0170.pdf

The bill is a mess to read but here is a post started by Bill Godshall at ECF

Not that I think the government will listen but it would be nice if snus users were a bit more organized. I would love to see massive letters and emails of protest being generated by snus users all over when legislation like this comes up. It would be an added bonus to even involve other sites like snuscentral, the snuff forums and ecig forums. We could post example letters along with email addresses of politicians we would like to speak to. I have a feeling that tobacco users are way too fragmented to have any impact right now.

The Utah ban has failed in committee

It looks as if the Washington state bill has been amended so portions and flavored smokeless would not be banned

As far as organizing there is the CASAA. I know they have been looking for someone to advocate for snus. I believe Chad is on the short list but don't know where it stands at the moment. You need to get over to the CASAA and make your voice heard. I would also suggest adding a snus news section to the forum as there is no good place to post articles. I put this thread under the industrial news section because...... there was no place else to go with it.

my dad who is about 85 used to tell me about stealing tobacco out of some mans storage and smoking it when he was about 12. This tobacco was home grown, home crued and nasty as anything one could imagine. When I was a kid we would wait for relatives to park their cars. We would get in their car and raid their ash trays for "good" cig butts. I promise you they were not candy flavored or even close. My point? I don't think cherry flavors is what attracts kids.

Liberty and freedoms are something those same kids will never understand because our government is taking care of that. In a few years we will have a generation of healthy puppets sending their income to Washington (DC). They will think buying a can of soda pop and not paying the sugar tax is unpatriotic. I have a grand child on the way right now and I am ashamed of the mess I am leaving to him (yea we know it's a him already).

I hope he never smokes, drinks or anything else that might cause him problems. The part that really pisses me off is HE should be able to make his own mind up how he wants to live. Those sorry good for nothings who are making all these great anti personal freedom laws had/have the freedom to live they way they want. But now in their infinite wisdom they want to steal that right away from us but mostly our kids. The bunch of _____ _____ _____ (fill in those blanks with the worst words your mind has in it).
