    Ariva Dissolvable Tablets

Does anybody have any experience with these and could give some advice?

I'm trying to find something for my wife because she can't get over the stereotype of having a "dip" (snus) in her mouth.

I've never really heard about these until today when I was reading some articles on Brad Rodu's website....lots of great snus info there, by the way.

Anyway, it says in the products section you can pick these up at Walgreen's, so I think she's gonna give it a try.

Now that I've found snus and quit smoking, I'm desperate for her to quit as well, and these look like they could be a great alternative for her.

Don't know anything about Ariva, but thanks for the link. It's good reading.

      No problem.

I spent about an hour on that site today at work. Unless my boss sees this, in which case, I read it when I got home.

I tried them.. Bought a pack of the Stonewall (more nicotine than Ariva) from a tobacco shop. Their not bad, keep her away from the 'natural' flavor. Try the WG or the Java. Takes about 30 minutes for them to dissolve.

Good luck finding them at Walgreens, CVS or Rite-Aid --
at least that's the case around here... just doing a search
at their sites will get you nowhere. Clerks (& even managers)
have no clue what you're talking about; since they're not
classified NRT they can't be sold alongside Nicorette etc.

Ariva has 1.5 mg nicotine per tablet; Stonewall has 4 mg.
The price per 20-pack is the same for both.

I never bothered with Ariva -- when I want a lower dose
I just cut a Stonewall in halves (2 mg) or quarters (1 mg)
with a neat little pill cutter.

I use Stonewall Java (great!!) and Wintergreen (not bad).
I ordered them from Internet Smokes but thanks to PACT
that's no longer possible!! Not sure how you can get them
with PACT just around the corner; Googling Stonewall Dissolvable
might get you a result or 2 that might work out before PACT
takes hold if you hurry (like tomorrow!!).

btw, I'm a snusser but these do come in handy!

I got some Ariva via trade. They taste good enough I guess, but they're small, and aren't that good for a habit imo. With snus, it's kind of like a new hobby. You have something of substance, and it makes it feel as though you aren't really giving anything up. I'd think that a pill-like thing like Ariva wouldn't be as satisfying. Purely speculation as I never tried to quit with something like that, but my experience with snus points in that direction. Also, patch/gum users have a fairly high failure rate, and I think it's due to the reasons I stated.

These could be the baby steps she needs to start with.
Even if she only used them to cut down on the cigs
she could eventually go full-time as other dual-users
              have mentioned in these forums.

IMO, I think they're worth a try (especially JAVA)

I hear the sentiment, about your wife not liking oral (pause for LaZeR sexual innuendo) tobacco, but these disssovables simply do not present the body with enough nicotine to actually be an effective aid in smoking cessation.

You absorb somewhere between 10 and 30 percent of the nicotine contained in oral tobacco, and the fact that that nicotine enters the bloodstream through the mucus membrane of the mouth instead of directly through the air sacs (there is a technical name for this, but damned if I am going to figure it out) within the lungs leads to a slower accumulation of the substance in the bloodstream. So the 1.5 of of the arriva and even the 4 of the stonewalls, in medical terminology, aint shit.

Maybe you could just get some arriva packaging and then replace the nasty little weak-shit tobacco pills therein with thunder frosted (or some other such "gunpowder snus", as it has been so lovingly referred to around here).

In all seriousness though, good luck. I understand how difficult it is to watch people close to you continue to smoke after you have found the easy button that is snus. Additionally, people who quit with a spouse are like 60% less likely to relapse, so there is something in it for you as well.

                  Placebos have their place...

I'm a firm believer in the placebo effect and have noticed
a number of persons who use it to their advantage,
                  sometimes unbeknown to them...

                  Quick example:
My stepson recently started snussing but where he works
(for the State) it's nigh impossible to get away with it
(bureaucracies can be bas-tards!). No tobacco on 'grounds'.

He uses Stonewall at work and (somehow) they last him
a couple hours; and he knows he won't have to worry
about getting caught 'cause they 'just melt away'. At
                  other times he just snusses.

Wow, thanks for the great responses.

She's willing to try the Ariva and Stonewall, so I'm going to try and find them for her.

She doesn't really smoke that much, only when she's at home, but if I could get her to feel comfortable with something else as a replacement, that would be great.

I have gotten her to try the General Mini Mints and she thinks they're okay. I told her if she only does it at home anyway, nobody would ever know but me, and I already think snus'ing is cool so no worries there.

How about Oliver Twist? It's chewing tobacco, but they're very small bits, and quite tasty but expensive for what you get. If you have a tobacco shop nearby, they may carry them.

Be sure to keep us in the loop --
the experience might be helpful for others

You might try Discreet - Especially Peach and Strawberry.

I'm not sure about Oliver Twist. It's tobacco leaf that is covered in sticky kind of sweet flavoring and then rolled up like a rope and cut into pieces.

Interesting to be sure. But I think they taste a bit like a raisin. And they are sticky.

Absolutely. There is some steadfast science out there to back up the placebo effect. The only problem is that all of those studies tell us that eventually the body overtakes the mind. As in: you need something of real substance to back up the placebo. That would be the nicotine. Sure using dissovables would work for awhile for nicotine replacement, but so would lollipops or masturbation. Eventually you need the nicotine.

You should have her try Oomph snus. It really does not resemble a tobacco product but is very satisfying. Have her take a look at it on the Northerner page and if she is interested in trying it shoot me a PM.
