Does anyone here live in Iceland, or know someone who does? I'm looking to purchase some Icelandic Neftóbak, which seems to be a dual-purpose nasal snuff/dip. As far as I can tell, it's only produced and sold in Iceland, and I'm looking to acquire some if I can. It seems very interesting to me, and it comes in awesome looking containers.

Nef = snuff (thus snufftobacco) vs reyktobak (reyk = smoke. Thus cigarettes)
Apparently they sell it in England as well
The following was found here

Neftóbak
is snuff from Iceland, found at the little tobacconist near Victoria Station. It comes in an unusual grey tube. It doesn't have a window. And this is good, for a snuff box shouldn't have one. The lecture theatre doesn't have a window either, and there they sit. For hours. Four hours, to be precise.

I knew a guy on the internet from Iceland and he smoked like a chimney. I asked him why he didn't try snus and he told me snus is pretty much considered contraband and not available. I think this tobacco is a dry snuffing tobacco and "some" people mix it with water to act as a snus substitute.

Just reading some of the Icelandic forums while searching Naftobak I found there is more hysteria over snuff/snus than there is over smoking.
Seems there has been a strong propaganda push to keep Icelanders on cigarettes. When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

Ironic isn't it? the world is so weird. In one place snus is evil, and in another ciggs are evil. What a weird place we exist in.

And icelandic snus/snuff (íslenska neftóbakið) looks like here: http://www.dv.is/frettir/2008/3/19/krabbamein-i-dos/ (the same stuff as on the photos before but from the other angle)

Just bumping this to see if anyone had heard anything more or found anything of it. I've been trying since the first post here to find someone who lives in Iceland who'd be willing to trade for something they can't get that I can, or who I could just Paypal or something, but so far no luck. Anyone on the borads have any Icelandic relatives that might be interested in helping out?

Just curious: do you snus or is this just an intellectual exercise for you?
Not that there's anything wrong with that!

This is actually the first (OK, the second) time I've heard of it
and, like anything 'new', it has piqued my/our curiosity.
It was the same way with Swedish snus a few months ago.
If there is an available source, a link to it would be much
appreciated.
Why is Swedish banned in Iceland? Are you referring to
the EU ban or is there something more nefarious involved?
Thanks for taking the time to help us in our quest, Icelander.
