Looking good snuff... I suggest seperating them out at that stage. I transplanted them to styrofoam cups with some holes cut in the bottom. Then in a couple weeks(?) they'll be big enough to go into your garden.
I'll probably pot those up this weekend. I've got some younger ones too that are doing nicely as well
I also decided to grow again this year. After a cold spring I had almost lost hope, but now we have a hot spell of historic dimensions and the plants look promising.
Based on my experiences two years ago I have the highest hopes for the plants in flower pots (the biggest leaves already are approx. 40 cm / 15 in. long):
Some plants are in a small garden bed (not under the best conditions, they paused to grow for some time. It will show in the next weeks if they develop a reasonable size or if they stay "bonsais"):
4 plants are in a balcony flower-box just for ornamental reasons (and to test how big they can grow with that little soil. They actually are a bit bigger at the moment than the plants in the garden bed):
The varieties are: Kentucky, Rustica, Java Besuki, Samsoun, Virginia, and Woodland Tobacco.
In an "ideal world" (with much sun and good soil) these plants could yield enough tobacco for a year's supply, but I'm just trying to gain more experience. It could become useful in case of more bans and regulations. If there's one thing that I've learned this year then that it's rewarding to buy the seeds from a professional grower, not to buy them from some Ebay hobby grower or to use self-harvested seeds. The plants overall look much better than two years ago.
Great pics. This is my first year growing and I am totally amazed at how fast they grow once they get started. I agree with you, I went with a real seed company for my seeds. (My seeds came from last years crop). I wish I would have planted some Kentucky but I want to grow my tobacco to seed and I don't want any cross breeding between species.
My plants are starting to come along very nicely.Tallest plant is six foot and they are starting to flower.I have topped most of them and the suckers are being cut as they show up.

Sorry I am so late getting back to this thread. I have been traveling, had relatives visit, had a friend visit, plus everyone and their mama is pulling at me.
Anyway, here is what I have. I will let you see the pictures of the carpeted tobacco patch first, then I will explain;
The carpet was not my idea, but was the idea of the owner of the land. I don't know what this carpet is called, but I can tell you what it does and what it is for. This is the same carpet laid down between two railroad tracks. Rain and water drains right through it, but it prevents other plants from taking hold and growing, except where two edges of the carpet meet, as you can see above.
Of the species I planted this year, only the Izmir-Osbas is so far blooming. I only have three of those and one has the proto-bud and here are photos of the other two:
To be continued, due to the four image posting limit...............
You know I love the Virginia Gold. You can see in this photo it is nowhere near ready, since the bottom leaves are not yet 3 times the size of my size 12 shoe:
The rest of the photos show what you get when you screw up by not tending to the plants for the first month after planting. (I have been VERY busy.) Suckers not only form, but grow into new stems. Here's a plant with one sucker, which leaves the plant with two stems:
This one has two suckers, which leaves it with three stems:
I'm only growing one type of seed this year. I wanted a seed that would grow well for my location. As much as I want to grow a Burley or Dark Air Cured...
