How to raise the PH in your snus

No, his problem is he's trying to raise the pH in such a small amount of snus. It's going to be hard to walk the line between too little and too much. Plus he has to add water so he can evenly distribute it and then let it dry back to the orignal level.

I've pretty much decided when I start doing it, I'll be working in batches of 250grams of raw tobacco which translates to 750 grams of finished snus. I've got a digital gram scale, I'm going to spring for a pH meter, I've already got test sieves so I can get consistent grain size....

If you think that's too much work, you're gonna have a hell of a time growing your own tobacco IMO.

I know I want Kentucky Dark Air Cured and probably some Rustica. I don't know if I want to grow any Burley. I'm sure I can find some Burley non aromatic pipe tobacco easy enough.

pH meters are on ebay. anywhere from $20 and up. I need to check on costs and availibility of buffer (calibration) solutions and costs of replacement electrodes before deciding. You can easily spend $100.

I know I want Kentucky Dark Air Cured and probably some Rustica. I don't know if I want to grow any Burley. I'm sure I can find some Burley non aromatic pipe tobacco easy enough.

So does non-amaomatic mean non fermented? Are there any tobaccos made for pipe smoking that are both air cured and non fermented like swedish snus?

I would only use the burley to lighten or sweeten up the blend. Non aromatic means they haven't used any (or little)casing, just natural aged tobacco.

I pick up little things here and there.

Bengt Sandh was a guy that started his own snus factory, he wrote a book on making snus, he later sold his snus factory to Swedish Match. So when Bengt writes something I pay attention. If using pipe tobacco is OK for Bengt it can't be all bad eh?

The impression I got from Mr. Snuffleupagus' attempt that his snus came out on the bland side :?: . plus I love Montecristo (so I think :? Kentucky Dark is going to be more to my liking. Rustica is only there to fortify the nicotine (if I need it) and the Burley would be to ligthen the taste if needed. Plus I don't know how well Kentucky Dark will hold moisture so some Burley might be needed.
