I have heard others say such as well, and I quess I'm technically still a newbie, well, intermediate now maybe(less than a year, I believe), with dip, and I even took a few weeks off not long ago, but I never had sores or hurting gums. I do think I see some recession though, and on top with snus use. If I even just throw in the towel completely it will be because of that.

I think the biggest reason for dip hurting so much, is because it is so easy to over do it. I've been on that train before and it just seems like you need to have pinch after pinch. Also it seems way easier to use bigger pinches than it does with snus. Not sure if this makes sense to anybody. But when I was smoking and dipping i went thru almost a pack a day and prolly a tin every 2 days. Maybe I've just lowered my tolerance, but with snus and snuff I use 1/8 the tobacco as I used to by weight. Maybe It's because I really wanted to stop it all but couldn't so i found a much "better" delivery system for my nicotine. Maybe I know in the back of my mind that if I used snus like I did dip, I wouldn't be able to continue using and I really enjoy it. Maybe it's cuz i am not smoking cigs anymore which have a nasty uptake and expell rate of nicotine. IDK. I have found tho that when I buy a tin of dip now I more or less treat it like snus, It goes a bit quicker because it doesn't last as long in the mouth and there is roughly 12 grams less of product. But I have to say snus is the way.....

Okay, I'm almost finished with my Skoal flavor experimenting.

Finally found a can of Skoal Vanilla Long Cut. This is the last flavor I was wanting to try from the Skoal family.

Nearly finished with the Cherry LC. Taste-wise, it's probably been my favorite Skoal flavor. Nice black cherry aroma and tastes like Cherry Coke.

I could never do Skoal cherry. For two reasons:

1) It was the first dip I ever tried when I was about 15. So naturally, like everyone, I puked the first time.

2) I used to be a medic on an ambulance and my partner would damn near go through 3 cans of that shit in twelve hours. Being stuck in a truck for twelve hours smelling cherry Skoal and the occasional spittoon spillage of foul cherry spit at 90 MPH wasn't very appealing.

Hope I didn't ruin your cherry Skoal experience!

I guess I'm lucky. After 15 years of dipping, I have never experienced sore/irritated gums. Now occasionally the tip of my tongue will hurt, kind of like when you burn it, but I think that is just from obsessively pushing the dip around.

I've noticed many stores I go to, still have the old cans. I had a Red Man coupon for 2 cans, but all they had was the cans before the new warning label. I went on and got them, as they have been fine before.

I still can't believe the last 3 places I have been to do not have Copenhagen Original Long Cut. I thought this was popular. I have a coupon, I guess I'll have to got to a T-store, oh, the last one I went to didn't have it either.

I have found great to mix some dips like natural and wintergreen. That I have found nice mix.
Im not a huge fan of natural dip. Fine-cut and Long-cut mix works also.

I used to mix straight and natural, and liked that, though I haven't done that in a while. I might try it again today.

Yeah, I've found it the best way to use dip by mixing it. Straight and natural works too. I have metal snus can where I usually keep the mix or I pinch it straight from two different cans.

Ughhhhhhh!! Gag, hurl!

I mixed some of my Red Man Straight, with some Grizzly Natural, and well.... it was horrible. Maybe my can of Natural is too old, I don't know, but the mix was downright terrible. I had to spit it out, and rinse my mouth, and drink some water, and the bad taste still would not go away. I thought about just throwing in some Red Man, but decided to just brush my teeth and go to bed.

I have had successful results with copenhagen and grizzly and two different flavors of copenhagen. It may need some practice to get the flavor ok. There are lot of choice to mix.

Well, I think I'm giving up the dip.

My gum at the base of my bottom left canine tooth has been stinging to the touch since Saturday.

I haven't dipped since Saturday. I was trying to try all those Skoal flavors and I guess I overdid it a little.

I had the same thing almost, a calcium stain on my lower left tooth, I've cut way back on dipping I've dipped like two times this and the previous month.
