Link - New container for a growing market

This looks an awful like the old can but the date of the news article is February 06, 2009

One caveat: A different formulation of Lucky Strike snus is sold in the South African market. So this new can may be for the South African market.

    News

New container for a growing market
MCH is continuing to see strong growth in its’ 2 (and sometimes 3) piece container business. We are proud to show our latest addition to our comprehensive range of tinplate containers, which is a 3 piece container for a tobacco product called snus.

Snus is a smokeless tobacco product very popular in Scandinavian countries. Our client is an iconic and global brand, and MCH now manufactures a 3 piece container for their snus pouches, with a plastic internal cup that is foil sealed for perfect freshness. The use of the exciting new Soft Touch Varnish gives the pack a velvety and uniquely warm feel, which adds a very individual tactile branding. This new addition to our portfolio demonstrates very clearly how we can create not just components, but the complete finished pack.

Didn't Lucky Strike cans used to have some rubber on the outside? If so, the above "new can" could really be the current can, as it is 3 pieces and feels a bit velvety? I could be completely off but just a thought.

          !!

GREAT news!! I just got my can of Lucky Strikes white portion from premiumsnus and it is a new kind of can!!

The top part is metal just like the old one and inside the back of the top lid is plastic that says "Lucky Strike" in black plastic! LOOKS GREAT!

The bottom half of the can is plastic but it has something on the bottom called "Snus Lock"!! It is a compartment for used portions!! The only drawback is that the whole bottom is plastic as opposed to the old cans that were metal and plastic.

One thing I did notice, it says the snus weight is 19.2 grams and it seems the portions are a bit shorter and smaller. I do not have a working camera but I am trying to get my wifes to get everyone a pic of it!!

          Will post ASAP!

            Re: !!

The 1847 cans have the used portion container under the bottom.

19.2 grams is about right for white portions. The difference in weight is moisture / not tobacco.

You are correct about the 1847 but now, in my hand I have a Lucky Strike white portion that has a plastic bottom with a "Snus Lock" Snus catcher. The only other drawback is that the inside is NOT foil sealed anymore

How does the lid seal? One of my biggest complaints with the old tin, was it would come apart easily when cold. It worked great when the snus was warm, but would separate under it's own weight when cold.

I have noticed that too about the old cans as well. The new one seems to be a bit more snug when cold. I don't know why but the portions feel a little different (not in a bad way, good) but I cannot put my finger on it. I just miss the foil seal!

That foil seal was nice. I have Lucky's in my freezer that are in the exact same condition they were in when I placed them there over 1 year ago.

Exactly! Whenever I used to peel back that seal, the snus was just a little moist but very fresh. The new can, it wasn't really moist at all. Still good though!

I actually got it from Premiumsnus.com ... I made an order to get just 2 total cans, 1 Camel (Swedish) and one Lucky Whites.

I have been meaning to post something like this for a while. It seems that many if not most of the folks hear are x-smokers. I applaud you all in your efforts to become smoke free. However, I have come to snus by a different rout and so I want to share my experiences with all those x-dippers who may be looking at this site for suggestions and direction to get started.
