Does anyone know what they do to make sterk and extra sterk snus? I want to start to get prepared for the time if/when snus is no longer available for order and I was just wondering. Is it just ph or is it the tobacco itself or what?
How is Sterk Made?

Yea, it's an all of the above thing. There's a few ways to go about it, but it comes down to what gives you the flavor profile you're looking for. Different species of plant have different nicotine levels, and I believe the portion of the leaf closest to stem also has more nicotine. Raising the ph also will give you better absorption.Originally posted by sagedilMy understanding is it is the tobacco as well, or different parts of the tobacco that add nicotine.

Oh man, so its basically impossible to make sterk. I guess I will search online for the nicotine content of the different tobacco varieties.
I know we grow tobacco in Ohio but I hope I can find a supplier for air/sun dried high potency leaves. I would rather not grow my own.

The snusmaking kits I bought come with two packets of "NA 3 Carbonate". The instructions say to just use one unless you want strong nic.
Like many said though, it's a combination of multiple things IMO.

To bad they wont tell you which varieties of tobacco they use. I have read that there is a strain called rustica which is the closest thing to the original native american tobacco and has the highest nicotine content.Originally posted by Mr. SnuffleupagusThe snusmaking kits I bought come with two packets of "NA 3 Carbonate". I went to the one place that I've seen before that sells the snus kit, but it says that they're not shipping any at this time. Is there another place out there with them besides http://www.vikingasnus.se/index_en.html that has them?Originally posted by Mr. SnuffleupagusThe snusmaking kits I bought come with two packets of "NA 3 Carbonate". I actually do have tobacco seeds that I'm going to try growing next year just as a hobby type of thing to see if I can do it. Only so much you can grow on .17 acres in the 'burbs :P
