There's also this thing called the "Black Market" that tends to develop when products are banned and/or overtaxed. Many people in certain European countries haven't bought a legal pack of cigarettes in years, yet remain pack a day smokers. As taxes go higher, and increasingly come to be perceived as illegitimate, the stigma associate with tax evasion in its various forms goes away.

Undoubtedly you could with a mortar and pestle, burr grinder, or the like.Originally posted by bondzaiI wonder if I could grind up some redman or longhorn straight to get it to the consistency of snus?
The question, I think, is would you really want to? :wink:

no i don't want to put it in my cuisinart or blender yet but what if there is a snus ban?... then it makes a lot of sense... its already made after all and compared to cigarette tobacco it is way cheaper. People here in TN are now buying 'Pipe Tobacco' to make cigarettes because they doubled the price of cigarette tobacco. Some folks process it a little to make it a little finer and some don't. The flavors are exactly the same flavors as the cigarette cut and it is half the cost because of the tax.

Yeah, and now bill before congress that would raise the pipe tobacco tax rate to that of the RYO rate for that very freakin reason.
Us pipe smokers are not happy about. A bit pissed about the blatant attempts by other parts of the tobacco industry to use us to try and get around the tax. Now just screws us over too.

That's why tobacco users have to realize that we're all in this together. Any attack on one of us is an attack on all of us. Every time you breathe a sigh of relief thinking "Thank God it's only menthol smokers" or something like that, you can bet that you're emboldening our enemies to screw us even more royally the next time around. Are tobacco users ever going to start fighting back?Originally posted by sagedilYeah, and now bill before congress that would raise the pipe tobacco tax rate to that of the RYO rate for that very freakin reason.

First they came for the flavored cigarette, and I did not speak out—because I was not a flavored cigarette smoker;
Then they came for the flavored dip, and I did not speak out—because I was not a flavored dip user;
Then they came for the nasal snuff, and I did not speak out—because I was not a nasal snuff user;
Then they came for the snus—and there was no one left to speak out for the snus.

Re: Stokers
Dip is made differently. Once it's been cased and cooked those flavours are there to stay. There's no way to remove the additives and undo the flavours and make it into snus.Originally posted by bondzaiWell here in TN at Ingles you can get big geez IDK if they are like 16Oz cottage cheese size plastic bins of Dip and what do you have to do to dip to turn it into snus? Can't be that hard.
You would be better off trying to find an all natural RYO or pipe tobacco without any added ingredients and make snus from that.

I agree with you 100%! Enough is enough! The funny thing is that they tax the crap out of tobacco products because of the supposed costs to society and then charge you $50.00 plus sales tax when you buy a box of patches to try and quit. If it's that terrible of a habit then they should be taking some of that tax money they are collecting and using it to help people pay for classes and nicotine replacement products to quit smoking. In fact, I have heard that even with health costs, smokers still usually end up costing the government less because they collect less Social Security benefits. Maybe we need to have a tax on health club memberships instead. Enough ranting but I do agree that the whole tobacco thing is getting out of hand and will do nothing but encourage a huge black market.Originally posted by tom502First they came for the flavored cigarette, and I did not speak out—because I was not a flavored cigarette smoker;

I understand the logic of excise taxes on things for which the demand is price inelastic (meaning, when they raise taxes by 25% and the price goes up by 25% the amount purchased goes down by less than 25%) which causes tax revenues to increase. That's why gas, alcohol and cigarettes are taxed so heavily. But it's gone beyond that, into an attempt to bludgeon tobacco users into complete submission to the dictates of a bunch of Ivy League Pin Headed nags, scolds and busybodies.
I'm making it my "single issue" when it comes to voting. If you aren't FOR rolling back punitive taxes and regulations on tobacco, I couldn't give a FF what else you're for or against: you won't get my vote, nor anyone else I can talk into agreeing with me.
