i know a guy on another forum who has sent me several packets of tobacco seeds, he grows his own tobacco in 5 gallon plastic buckets with holes drilled in the bottom for drainage.. they're quite decorative around his patio. He fire cures his for smoking, but tobacco is tobacco, I'll try to contact him again to see if we can get more info on the growing.

Wait.......what ban? I have not heard anything about a ban just State taxes. Manufacturers and distributors will comply, US is a significant market for them.

Talking about the USPS ban, No more using the US Mail to buy snus.
Prices will go up and availability will go down.

Ok, I haven't noticed this question posted yet, so I will ask... What about the people that don't use los? Is there also a method for making portions? Can you buy the material to make portions? I have used los but it's not something I can do at work, which is where I am at most of the time.

You know I am reading all these posts about tobacco types, chemicals, drying time, etc... I am wondering if it is just easier to go down to the store and buy a can of snus?

Regarding modified coolers and the like:

Before I landed on my current line of work, I (shout out to PP) used to breed parrots for a living. Many of the brooders sold to small-time breeders are basically modified coolers or fishtanks, but, of course, they're sold to achieve much lower temperatures. I'm pretty sure there are instructions around to build your own, too.

As far as I can recall, there's no reason these couldn't be setup for much higher temperatures (190 F or whatever) and the advantage is that they are made to be very, very accurate. When you're dealing with teeny, weeny, featherless 0-day birds, precision is important.

I suspect that some of the companies that build brooders would be happy to make custom snus ovens if you gave specifications. The type I used to use came with multiple lab thermometers and hygrometers to keep a very, very consistent environment. Compared to a $25 toaster oven, they're not cheap, but they are accurate.

How about someone putting a kit together that does not include tobacco.

This is one thing I would found extremely interesting. I'm an ex-smoker myself and use nicotine free snus very on a daily basis just because of my oral fixation. There are some really good nicotine free types of snus, but on the other hand there are also so much good flavors (from flavourart or LorAnns) which would be very cool to use in nicotine free snus. So I wonder how you should make your own nicotine free snus and if someone tried this. (I know, it's very unlikely- but since this is the only informative thread about this topic I've found in the net, I want to ask it up here).

                    RexPaimon,

Welcome. I don't understand the desire to make an imitation product of something you are not addicted to.

                      Justintempler,

thank you for your kind address of welcome.
Well, for me- without nicotine- snus is just like candy.
Why do you eat different types of cookies, when there is one basic recipe of cookies without any chocolade, caramel, etc.? Anyway, why eating cookies generally when you don't need to?
I understand that there are many people for whom snus is a great alternative to smoking and especially a lot healthier. But for me it is something I really enjoy (without tobacco), therefore I am interested in a large variety of flavors.

I have not heard of this snus ban, but frankly, the thought of it angers me. Stores sell nic gum for $50 here a box, and patches for them same. They are considered products to help you quit, and for me, so is snus. Snus is cheaper and tastes better. A lot of people I know who quit smoking, are now addicted to their nic inhaler or gum. IT makes me want to scream that those products are legal and so expensive, yet they want to ban snus, a cheaper alternative which has proven to reduce a whole nations lung cancer rate. I really start disliking this countries politics more and more every time they take something else away from me. No longer can you smoke in a bar next to the freakin Marlboro factory in "Tobacco Country" Richmond VA. So fine, i'm ok with that because I don't believe in harming others, but SNUS??? Really?? It harms no one but the user...and the whole argument that children find it so tasty...that comes down to parenting and how this country has rolled over and started babysitting everyone's children. Parents, get a hold of your kids so adults like me can have our freedoms.

Whats the word on this ban and how expensive is it to live in Sweden? lol.

OK....so breathe now.

There is no snus ban. what this all is referring to is a bill before the Senate right now called the PACT act. Has already passed overwhelmingly in the house, and has passed through the committee in the Senate.

PACT act would make it illegal to ship tobacco through the USPS. we think. Still not 100% sure. Possible other private carriers would not ship as well. So *possible* that snus could not be shipped at all.

Possible, no one really knows for sure what exactly it means, other than at the least, start to expect to pay your state's tobacco tax when you buy over the net. Again, if you still can buy over the net.

But does this mean our snus would disappear?? No. And Swedish Match, and Northerner, and probably others have been preparing just in case. If worse comes and you can't buy snus over the net at all anymore, expect to see a much greater US retail distribution of Swedish snus.

Or start liking General as we know we can always get General.

Ok, not so bad, but still not great. I'd pay the tobacco tax. I'm sure thats all they want...money. If it were not for the billions the cig companies give the gov, they would be out of business.

General you say. How can we always get that? Is it sold at your local gas stations? if so, lucky.

Oh cool. Thanks for that info. I'll have to give them a call. I've called some other local tobacco stores and they don't even know what it is. Thanks again!
