By strong, do you mean the nicotine hit or the flavor? I usually use at least two pouches of Grizzly or a good size pinch of long cut. Grizzly is supposed to be real high in nicotine but am not sure how the amount compares to a portion of snus.

Thanks for the warm welcome to all of you.
PMD (my fellow illustrious and distinguished gentleman from the noble state that is South Carolina),

I have sent many a seasoned dipper to the can with the shits with just a single pinch of Skruf. The nic content in just regular snus is a lot more than in dip. Once you get going I think you will realize that half the effect you felt from dip had nothing to do with Nic.

Thus, I absolutely agree with lxskllr and sage- mix in some of both (regular and stark) who knows you may very well be a nic fiend. But best to try a little of both at first.

    He means nicotine content.

Snus is different enough. Enough you shouldn't assume anything. Get a variety so you know for sure.

    Welcome to Snuson!!

Too strong I think. Put a couple a starks in to see if you like them, but I'd include some regular strength snus also.

Here's my suggestion, keeping the same number of tins...

    General original portion
    General Onyx
Elixyr- You had it in your list, but don't consider this ordinary snus. It's nothing like anything out there.
    Thunder Frosted
Probe- this is a flavored snus. Some like it, some don't. But it has a strong flavor.
    LD portion
    Gotland Yellow portion

Other than my first two weeks, the only snus I used my first 4 months was strong. But I was transitioning from two packs of cigarettes a day.

Two suggestions. At least one regular snus, just so you can compare.

And if you think you might even like los, maybe a can to see what that fuss is about. Snus is so cheap compared to what you buy here, really no reason not to experiment. And if you hate it, we have a snus exchange set up here to get rid of cans you don't want.

And even though I said it before, welcome. Happy to see you come back and post more!!

Howdy to everyone. I found this website by chance and am so glad that I did. Sage and Snusdog gave me a warm welcome already and told me how big a help everyone is on this website.

I have never tried any real Snus. I mainly do the Grizzly pouches at the office (hate to be the person who empties my trash can) and either Kodiak or Skoal Edge at home. I tried Klondike and Camel "Snus" but I didn't really get anything from them.

I think when I finally send my first order to probably Buysnus.com because of the variety, I am just going to buy portions so I can use them at work and home. Here are the ones I am leaning towards because I like more flavor than Cope offers. Taste like dirt to me.

Elixyr, General Extra Sterk, General Onyx, Odens Extra Strong Cinnamon, Offroad Strong Portion, Thunder Extra Strong –wintergreen & frosted.

What do you think? Too strong or should I gear it down some?

Picture gooey loose leaf chew a la RedMan or Levi Garrett. Those leaves are twisted tightly like you would do to make thread or rope, they're then(in the case of Oliver Twist) cut into 3mm*6mm(guesstimated) bits. Some other brands are cut bigger, but the idea's the same. You then put a bit in your mouth, and store it in your cheek like you would other tobacco. I prefer the lower rear jaw, but it doesn't matter, put it wherever you like. You can bite the pieces every so often to release more flavor.

They would never replace snus for me because I don't like the mouth feel as well. They're tasty though, and a nice diversion every so often.

One other thing... They don't have the sharp bite American chew has. They're fairly sweet, and nicely flavored. I don't think most women would balk at the taste if that gives you any idea.

Oliver Twist isn't much like dip in style or flavor. The closest thing would probably be Grov, but it's still a mile away in flavor. If you want to try dip, your best bet is either private trade, or use the USA section of Northerners website.

I guess rotating between tons of snus brands is an american thing, most scandinavians stick to 1 snus brand. i stick to 1 lös and 1 portion.

Guys to each his own but as an x-dipper I strongly recommend staying as far away from American dip as possible. It’s just not worth the risk especially when there is snus. Just put the can down and walk away!!! :x

I have been meaning to post something like this for a while. It seems that many if not most of the folks hear are x-smokers. I applaud you all in your efforts to become smoke free. However, I have come to snus by a different rout and so I want to share my experiences with all those x-dippers who may be looking at this site for suggestions and direction to get started.
