Northerner.com will sell in USA but will follow the Pact Act

    Dear folks!

Just want to announce that Northerner.com will follow the Pact Act and the FDA new requirements. It will be implemented on the 29th of June.

It means we will continue shipping out US orders from our warehouse in Orefield, Pennsylvania.

We will have to add the local state tobacco tax, add online age verification to the check out and ship with UPS only. The positive thing is that our customers will get their orders quicker with UPS and since we are based in the USA - the UPS shipping costs will not be that high - compared to shipping from Sweden.

The numbers of brands we will be able to offer will decrese due to the new FDA requirements. We will continue to offer all brands from Swedish Match, Skruf, V2 and some from Gotlandssnus and TillCe. We will not be able to offer any brands from the other suppliers - JTI, BAT, Gellivare and Gajane.

Many of our customers will probably buy from online Swedish retailers that will not follow the Pact Act but we are pretty sure the US custom eventually (3-6 months) will intervene with their sales so that they will have to follow the Pact Act or not sell at all to the US.

What are your thoughts about it? Do you think the US custom will just let snus orders from Sweden passing through - without proper tax and age verified?

    Wish you a Happy Easter!

    Sincerely,
    Frank

No Oden's? You got to be f&%$ing kidding me?

God I hope this is just a sick April Fools prank.

I'm not mad at you guys, I understand the position you are in, but I'd be lying if I said I'm not extremely pissed right now.

Toque will continue to ship to the USA, but will fully comply with the Pact legislation as we do today with the current laws.

To date we are unaware of any US customer ever being asked to pay taxes or for that matter anyone volunteering to pay taxes on receipt of one of our shipments. We presume that all our customers are law abiding Americans and declare the tax due in their yearly return.

When/if the Pact act comes into force we will continue to send and presume that our customers will inform the appropriate legislators of the tax due on all the shipments that they receive. It is estimated that 1 in 180 shipments may be inspected after/if Pact comes in.
Roderick, of Toque Snuff, posted this on another thread a few days ago. Today he said that he will continue to ship snuff to US customers as he always has, under the presumption that they will declare and pay all and relevant federal, state and local taxes. In my usual spirit of magnanimity, I am more than willing to remove the burden of collecting taxes on snus or snuff orders shipped to US addresses from Northerner, Toque or any other non-US retailer, and take it upon myself

The PACT Act will make it difficult for me to fully express my usual, completely altruistic nature, however, since retailers located in the US would have to collect taxes at the point of sale. But I'm too full of Love to be stopped: despite changes to the law, I intend to remain a martyr to my own generosity, and would prefer to order snus from abroad so I can help shoulder the burden of making alternative tobacco products available in the US, and do my part as a Planetary Citizen to contribute toward a greater degree of international cooperation and friendship.

In any event, I suspect US customs is is going to be too busy looking for bulk orders of Ukrainian cigarettes and Bulgarian pipe tobacco to bother with shipments from the UK and Sweden, which everyone knows are far more likely to contain "pro-children" products like sugarless candy and inspirational reading material on sexual abstinence than tobacco products anyway.

                Same here.

I will still order from Northerner, but you can bet your ass I will find a way to get my damn Oden's. I wouldn't be so mad if V2's quality wasn't shit right now, but I'm damn tired of the crappy cans.

                Time to horde right guys?

I am glad y'all are following the law. It will make it better in the end. If I do order from you at least I will know my order won't be taken at customs.

What FDA regulations limit the brands you can carry? I don't understand. Is it because of the flavors? It can't be, because V2 has flavors and they are allowed to remain. So I am confused as to why the FDA has anything to do with what brands you can carry.

Can you provide any more clarity on that part? Which snus from Gotlandssnus & TillCe? Thanks.

                        Well, it's better than nothing.

But as far as I know, the Pact Act was never signed, and I read it might be a "pocket veto". The Seneca tribe is very strong on this.

Doh, I just read it was signed...

This shows Maobama has these agendas:

                        More unemployment
                        More national debt
A vendetta of punishment to American Indians
                        More crime and smuggling
                        More people smoking

I guess the question is what's the tax in PA? Right now I think it's zero but what's it going to be?

                            $15/roll in taxes?

If that's the case I'll probably play the odds w/ overseas ordering.

Even $25 for shipping isn't bad. At least I don't think so 'cos I order months worth at a time. I don't mind so long as we don't have to sign for it when it's delivered. That would be a major inconvenience for me as my schedule is irregular.

But you are in Mass, right? In MA your order will have to be taxed at 90% of "wholesale value" + federal tax + any additional local tax that applies.
