    Original Pursuit

I guess this is SM's North American marketing campaign. Thoughts?

Not my cup of tea, but then again, I'm European and I like my marketing to be no-nonsense straight-up information. So this whole approach of trying to sell a lifestyle doesn't work for me personally. Still, I wish them the best of luck on the american market.

Swedish Match meets the Twitter and Facebook crowd and starts it's own blog. The face of marketing in the internet age.

They're going after Skiers and snwoboarders like the Dip crowd goes after NASCAR.

You've got to start somewhere and expand from there. It looks like they're going to do a city tour and sponsor events and hand out samples where the law allows.

Considering that in Canada they can't even display products, using the Olympics as a way to get their foot in the door seems a natural.

I like the touring idea. That is as long as they come near me!

Thank God I'm part of a demographic no one is interested in, unless you live in Afghanistan, and are into cultivating "alternative" crops.

To me this is almost creepy. It’s too reminiscent of big tobacco trying to sell an image in order to down play the hazards of their product.

Snus is a product that sells and is worthy of sale. Sell the product. Let the product speak for itself and forget procuring an image.

I think image chasing will send up instinctive red flags with Americans. I might be wrong but whenever someone tries to get me to buy a product by diverting my attention away from that product to something else...I always suspect a slight of hand.
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

I don't feel as strongly about it as you do, but it strikes me as disingenuous. It reminds me of a cigarette tent where they were giving away cigarettes at a festival I went to. You walk in and there's 2 pretty girls having fun. Yay! it's a big party in the cigarette tent, or not... It all felt forced, and artificial. That's what that blog reminds me of. It's alright I guess, but I don't dig the vibe.

They need celebrity endorsement. Just imagine a photo of Brad Pitt with a can of General.

+1 ...though I'd rather see Jolie working in a nice fat portion. In fact, there's thousands of women I'd like to see take a portion... mm mm mm.

Well, you have to market your product.

Yup, just like that, but a bit more low budget :^D

If I were running the show, I'd concentrate on getting the product out in bars. Give lighted fridges to the bars, and sponsor a snus night at the bar, highlighting Swedish culture, and giving away snus and alcohol. Let word of mouth take care of the rest.
