    steam cured dip

hello, i try to read everything I can on snus but there is one thing i don't understand: it seems the only major difference between snus and dip is the curing process and that changes everything.

Why don't the american dip producer steam cure their tobacco if that means lower health risk?

    thanks

Probably the tradition, and their factory set ups. They'd have to change everything, and it might taste different too.

      Welcome to Snuson alexis.marcil

Yes, my guess is it would change the taste, so wouldn't be what their customers were expecting. And, umm... not sure that American companies have ever cared for that whole "health" angle.

Deleted what I said. If you saw it don't mind it.

Alot are trying flue cured, not fully into flue curing yet. Which is heated air from fireboxes, but filtered to keep nasties and smoke away from it. Generally takes a week to cure.

50th edit. Gotta look but alot of brands are cured in all sorts of ways, using each type. sun/air/fire/flue but what I've been seeing so far.

51st: Oh big mistake its not steam cured. Its air cured then steam pasteurized. Which is probably what American Moist Snuff brands are missing. But after pasteurizing it, I'm pretty sure any form of curing is acceptable if you pasteurize it afterward.

You can get pasteurized dip kind of. Klondike long cut snus is more akin to dip than it is snus. But lacks the flavour of real dip. Klondike long cut straight for example is nowhere near as good as skoal straight or cope straight (if you can call that good I really dont like straights anyway)

Some brands of American Smokeless tobacco have tsna levels not much higher than snus thesedays anyway. I really dont think its as dangerous as the anti tobacco organisations want the public to believe.

I have some Skoal Straight in now. Yeah, I'm not a Straight fan either. I prefer Natural.

I love straight. was my staple.

I think the American palate is accustomed to over the top flavor in almost everything. That's probably why snus will take a wicked long time to become more popular in the US. Though it would be nice to be able to get fresh snus and any sort of variety, I'm not looking forward to the severe increase in cost. Could you imagine six or seven bucks for a tin of General??

Klondike Fine and Long Cut and Offroad American Wintergreen LC are pretty much dips, but made like snus. So there you go..

Now if they made a LC Offroad Original los, or a Phantom, that would interest me.

Here is the litmus: if it cannot pass the Swedish food standards then it is not snus and I don’t want it. The end.

All that "stuff" is natural elements found in about everything, such as broccoli.
