I think he might already have it(for the time being). I think PM1847 is like a mellow Level, and it's already a favorite of his(me too). What do you think CJ?

I wonder if it could be a decent business plan for some of the smaller companies to buy these more popular yet discontinued brands and start producing them. A lot of the expensive work has already been done for them and they should be able to get them cheap since the original producers have nothing to lose and could recoup a little of their investment.

I dunno if the original manufacturers would want to release the recipes, and even then - I'm sure other companies wouldn't get it close enough or use the same production standards to be able to make it close enough to those die hard fans who know and love the taste of certain ones so much that they would know if anything was different...

Of course I don't know either but if I were a new snus producer the idea of getting my foot in the door with a brand such as level or claq qui would be very interesting. And if I were a bigger company getting rid of a brand I would appreciate a few million for something I am throwing away. The new product probably wouldn't be an exact replication but with the recipe I would think they could get close enough to keep the loyal consumers. Lets say RJ Reynolds made a deal to produce Lucky Strike snus in America with the same recipe. Assuming they were actually trying to replicate the swedish version I think it would grab a high percentage of the old Lucky Strike snus fans here.

They can keep making Level, exactly how it is, give it a snazzy new tin, a catchy new name, charge a little more for it, and it will become more popular than Level ever was.

A generous member sent me some new 1847 recently(thank you blotgode), and it seems a little different to me. It's generally the same, but perhaps a bit milder. I think you'll like the new 1847, but it isn't exactly like the old formula imo.

"JTI Sweden would like to be able to focus on the strong brands we have in our snus portfolio, both in the value segment (LD) and in the premium segment (Camel and Gustavus). We believe our prospects are best served by de-listing Level from a portfolio with such strong brands."
Sounds like LD is doing good. I was kinda worried about that one too.
LD stands for Liggett-Ducat - 2 very big names in the tobacco industry.
LD is considered a worldwide flagship brand.
Delisting LD would be like delisting Winston here in the states.

Here's what they should do. Rebrand Camel (Swedish) as "A New Level". Problem solved. Then we can start getting Camel Snus in the US.

Websales are nothing to sneeze at but it's a drop in the bucket. Did you see what kind of numbers Gran Prix/Tourney was shooting for? a minimum of 320,000 cans per month at retail
...and for that you have to have a retail distribution chain in place. You could put all that effort into a web based distribution system and then something like PACT comes along and your web based business is wiped out overnite.

On top of that I think JTI has their eyes on the FarEast China, India, Japan. The USA market is small in comparison and has a lot more established competition.
