Views of Snus UK/Views of Snus US

I've tried to introduce smokers in the UK to Snus and the general attitude I get is "yuck" or "it didn't do anything for me" or "it smells of cat piss" or "I'll look like a feckin hillbilly" or "all tobacco gives you cancer".

Not one smoker have I converted and yet I am the evidence that it is better than smoking and that it actually stops you smoking. I don't understand the Brit smokers way of thinking on this at all and I'm embarassed to say that it's extremely ignorant, but I believe in the US there might be a different view due to your history of smokeless tobacco. We only really have a history of snuff use over here.

Has anybody in the UK had a success story?

The US views on smokeless really aren't any different! It is considered a southern thing at best which really isn't much better! The ewwws and grosses are still there! People are just not accepting of it anymore. Everyone usally tells me "well, at least I won't have to have my jaw removed" so sadly i havent had any converts or success either!!

      cheers!!

I think it's the experimenters that are interested in giving snus a try. Some people want to experience what life has to offer, and are willing to try new things. Other people are content to sit on the couch and let the TV tell them what to do.

I've had actual hillbillies turn their nose up at snus because it wasn't a cigarette. This same guy was looking for handrolling tobacco that tastes exactly like Camel cigarettes :^/ Kind of a low bar he was setting for himself eh? yeah smokeless tobacco is still very much looked down upon by many americans too. and i find that snuff blows peoples minds. like no one has ever heard of it, and are unwilling to try.

BUT, the US has a very large smokeless moist snuff user base. It must be very popular, as it is sold everywhere. Smokeless dip is not sold in the UK, to my knowledge. But it must be popular here, even if in some circles it's considered "hillbilly".

I am in the South. And almost no smoker I know has ever been interested in snus. I just long ago gave up. Their loss, not my problem.

I, too, am in the south. I completely understand.

ppl just don't want to listen. I also have just about given up trying to convert ppl. Maybe when I get my new plastic jaw they will reconsider.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

dippers tend to be more receptive to snus. especially once you explain that spitting isn't necessary.

I've interested some smokers here in Oklahoma. (While not technically the South, it's far from being the most progressive state.) Most them have dipped before though. Of course, I still get the "It's gonna rot your face off" from many people. Once I give the explanation of how snus is made and the difference between snus and dip, I do get a few interested. I've only had one coworker though that I would say is a potential convert. He's still smoking right now though.

I know a lot of people that are very motivated to quit smoking, but most of the people I have gotten to try snus are ex-dippers/chewers.

yep pretty much i will second or third (whichever) that the US view isnt much differnt but most people are just content to live how they have lived for so long that they don't even care anymore. i've only been smoking for 4 years this september(im 23) i guess i could say i got smart fast..and immediatly took to snus as a means of nic replacement..the ppl i have tried to convert are useally truck drivers and they seem intrested enough but probally will never buy some for themselves. at this point i'm gonna give up. most people ive talked to just think it's dip anyways..as an explorer i guess i should try some nasal snuff..

Seriously.... Dude should try peter stokebye's blends, any of them.... If I were going to start smoking again those would be it. Camel's taste like a mixture of desert sand and dried out camel shit with a touch of f**kin' nasty. I'm not sure what anyone see's in camel.
