No login required here! Cool article, more of the same back-and-forth about health benefits/risks. But still a good read.

      no login for me

Thats really cool, though. I'm glad to see it getting some press. I didnt know tobacco companies were forbidden to make any claims regarding health. I was wondering why camel and marlboro snus focused on the spitless aspect as the primary selling point while ignoring the health issue.

Overall a good article. At least, the USA are a country, where smokeless tobacco is not unknown. I read an article a few days ago in my local newspaper about the hard life, smokers have to face with the new public smoking bans in Germany. They only shortly mentioned nasal snuff (nice smell, but virtually no nicotine-uptake) as an aid, but no oral tobacco at all.

        Cheers!

This article is how I got started on snus. I read it and found it interesting so I went online and ordered a can of General portion. Before I received it I was in a test market city for Camel and tried that. Did not like the American snus at all but love Swedish snus

the camel snus is how i got started then ordered the real stuff and never looked back. i liked the article it seemed less harsh about the whole thing and seemed a little more balanced.

While the article was pretty balanced, I'm appalled by the idiocy of some of the comments to it on that page (157 so far). The anti-tobacco nazi movement has pretty much brainwashed 80 percent of the population over here into thinking that ANY form of tobacco will indeed kill you. Comments such as "Nicotine will kill you" and "Snus is disgusting because of all the spitting" are a common theme thoughout. These so called "enlightened" people can't even begin to see the differences between snus and american smokeless tobacco, they just know that tobacco in any form is evil. All it takes is a very small mention of a slight risk of pancreatic cancer and they can blow that up into yet another YOU WILL DIE campaign

Sadly these are the same reasons swedish snus will never take off in America in any significant amount. The best we can hope for is that the few among us that enjoy it, don't end up being taxed to death or losing it altogether because of these pinheads.

Exactly, Rosdower. As long as I can get my snus online without too many taxes, I'll be a happy camper. They may be able to stop it from catching on here, but they can't stop me from having my personal vices.

However, were my government to place an embargo on Swedish snus, I'd flip a bitch and likely leave the country.

It is because of that reason and the fact that US tobacco companies lick balls anyway, that I'm happier now with the situation of snus than I would likely be if we had it commonplace here.
I'm happy I can get my cans for almost half of what it costs for cigarettes. I'm happy the product is high quality.
The only thing I'm not happy about is having to make large orders instead of buying as I go.
I just hope they don't install some bullshit taxes and or customs upon the current situation (not just U.S. snus but any snus, like the faggot Canadian government)

Same here..... or at least catch on to growing popularity of snus in the US.

The US tax man sure does hate to miss out on a buck.... and Im afraid they are gonna start sending me a bill every time a Swedish Post package lands in my mailbox.

We are gettin out cheap.... and I sure am gonna hate seein that come to an end.

Do you think there are enough American users of Swedish snus that will make that happen?

                      I sure hope not...

Im not sure that the number of users will be so much of a factor as much as recognition of what snus is would contribute...

Then again.... for as little as any of us would order for our own personal usage, it may not be cost effective for customs send bills out for a few cans or rolls every time they come across a package with snus being declared.

                        Time would tell I suppose.

Read the article. Old. Does anyone know how the various trials are going for Camel and Marlboro and how the snus market is doing in the US? Are we going to see a price hike? Does someone know if the numbers of users are going up or down? I'd hate to see the number of users go up and then the product get taxed to heck.

“There is no scientific evidence whatsoever that smokers are able to switch to smokeless tobacco and remain switched,” said Thomas Glynn, the director of cancer science and trends at the American Cancer Society

                            ...........

"There is little dispute that it has had an impact on smoking habits, at least among Swedish men.In 1976, 43 percent of men here smoked regularly; by 2005, only 14 percent did. During that period, the percentage of men using snus jumped to 22 percent, from 9 percent."

Seems T. Glynn does not believe in the numbers. I used to smoke. I have seen many other posters that used to smoke. I think that it is an easy switch especially since it is hard to smoke anywhere now a days.

I know I stopped smoking by using Snus. Couldn't believe how easy it was either. If the sales in my county are the same as in other parts of the country, I don't think we have anything to worry about. Sales are not good here. Just my $.12. ($.10 added for inflation) 8)
