Camel's Contents?

Maybe I'm delusional, but back when Camel Snus was actually a product of Sweden (round can), I gave it a shot and it wasn't too bad... it was still too sweet for my liking, but you could still get a sense that tobacco was a part of the recipe.

However, the new stuff that seems to be made here in the U.S. (the rectangular, redesigned can) tasted somewhat different. The sweetness seemed very synthetic (sort of akin to a very rank diet soda) and you couldn't even tell that it was a tobacco product.

So you may be right about the "whole bunch of garbage in it." Maybe it's just me, but there seems to be a very discernible difference between the two.

Both are shite compared to the true Swedish snus though, and it'll be a cold day in Hell before I ever buy the Camel again.

Personally, I'm sticking with the Swedish stuff.. at least until some grandstanding politician makes it illegal to mail order here.

I bet once they moved production over from Sweden and were free of their laws they put a whole bunch of garbage in it.

That'd be about par for the course. Then, a few years after they introduce "snus" to widespread adoption in America, studies start showing that "snus" (meaning American who-knows-how-its-made-snus) is much higher in nitrosomines, etc than we thought.

It would be interesting to see a study done on the nitrosamine levels of regular snus versus the camel stuff. I bet once they moved production over from Sweden and were free of their laws they put a whole bunch of garbage in it.

Snus produced in Sweden falls under laws governing food production. (I guess since it goes in your mouth just like food)
Just like foodstuffs, they need to disclose the ingredients and "nutritional facts" :lol:
Kinda like the FDA but much stricter.

Well, that would explain why it tastes remarkably like the smell of a freshly-opened pack of Camels.

They don't have to disclose ingredients (I believe Swedish snus has ingredients because Swedish law requires it, but Camel is now made in the US), and good luck getting them to tell you exactly what's in it.

I didn't think it was horrible, but I'm definitely in the minority. But I'll go ahead and stick with the mini white Tre Ankare instead.

I just cut open one of the bags of Camel Snus out of curiosity to see what in the world the tobacco was like inside. It looks just like cigarette tobacco! It is light brown and 100% dry! Half of it was clumped together hard like it had been glued or something.

I don't know what in the hell is wrong with R.J. Reynolds. I live in Winston-Salem where RJR is located and I had high hopes that they'd make at least a DECENT product, but it looks like they just put some flavoring on some cigarette tobacco and shoved in in a bag.

I can't find the contents of their blend anywhere on the net like you can with Swedish snus. Does anyone know what in the hell is in this stuff!? Can it even be called snus?!
