I am not sure what makes you that Swedish Snus is healthier than American Camel Snus. The ingredients for American Camel are listed here:

If you like Camel Snus and can't stand the salt in the Swedish snus just double up on the Camel if you need more nicotine.

1. Swedish Snus is regulated by the Swedish FDA as a food product and held to high standards, i.e. GothiaTek. As of current, American "snus" isn't held to any standard.

2. We know how Swedish Snus is made - from the seed to the can. Some of us have been in the factories. American "snus" production methods are a mystery and they are very closed off about these methods. That big unknown is a HUGE reason not to trust American "snus".

Hi everybody I am new to swedish snus. I have been using the American camel frost snus and wanted to switch to the swedish snus because it is healthier and more nicotine.

Honestly I never noticed that much salt and after 3 years of use I definitely don't think about it. I didn't read much of the Op but if it means anything I had been dipping copenhagen and smoking p-funks for like 117 years before I tried snus, i'd say my palette is destroyed except i can cook some good shit by taste so that must not be it.......

i would Say Jakobbsons classic and classic strong are some of the least salty .. Oden's extreme also isnt very salty but its a dark and powerfull beast ! Nick and Johnny crushed ice is sweet and strong or Below Zero (MINTY)what they callin it now ?

Also if they are all that salty why don't they come out with flavors that go with the salty taste like buttered salty popcorn or salted ham or salted peanuts or salted french fries. LOL JK.

Is there anywhere that lists what the salt levels are for the different brands? Like the swedish version of the FDA or something was trying to find this info like a list or something. Personally I like the American flavor. I just wish they could make the American Flavor but process and manufacture it like the Swedish so it was safer.

Don't throw any snus away, just toss it in the freezer and revisit it later. Most that you hate at first you will love in a year. Your tastes will change and adapt. I couldn't stand unflavored Snus at first, all I wanted was mint. Two years later I can hardly stand mint and rarely use flavored - it just takes time for your tastes to adapt.

I agree 100% with Chad regarding the salty nature of snus and the eventual transition to a wider variety of products. Trust the members here, including all of us Americans, that the salty aspect will fade in your perception fairly quickly. I also have a food related background, former flavor chemist, and the aversion is a very typical reaction but your tastes will adjust and more subtle flavors will begin to come through as you get used to the nature and unique usage of the product. My suggestion is to try one, the Grov for example and remember or even write down the taste profile in your own words. Then switch to another exclusively for a couple days (maybe the catch Mint). On day three go back to Grov and see if it tastes just the same as before. My guess is it will have changed in taste profile and the saltiness not so apparent anymore.

I also agree with Chad on this, Swedish Mint Snus may be a good place to start, when I first started snusing about a year and half ago, I used General Mint and I could not detect as much salt in it as some of the other types such as General White. However, your taste buds may grow old and eventually branch out. I personally could never detect much salt in Ettan which has a dark chocolate profile, that may also be another good one to try especially if you like Copenhagen.

You have to keep in mind - American "snus" isn't real snus, and is geared towards what they think Americans like - over sweetened sic kingly sweet tobacco.

Switching to Swedish Snus is an adjustment. Most Swedish Snus has salt as an additive, not to make it salty, but to enhance the very present flavors in Swedish Snus. That is true, I have a culinary arts background and salt is great to bring out flavors or make more present subtle hints and notes of other flavors.

In time you won't even notice any salt. It's hard for me to think of what has less and what has more because I honestly don't think any snus is salty now. But in the beginning I was in the same boat as you, it just took time to adjust to American "snus" to the real stuff.

Trust me, I - and I think a vast majority of SnusOn started like you did, and in a year you'll look back on it or even sound off the same things you're about to hear in this thread. Swedish Mint snus is a good transition, and in time you'll adjust to the saltiness, but I guarantee in time the mint will run thin and you'll tire of it and branch out.

I know you're thinking blasphemy! In fact , 2 years ago when I started and members here told me the same thing - that was my thought as well. But give it time and keep an open mind! Best wishes and welcome to a new and much healthier tobacco!

Honestly, the saltiness is something that I enjoy in Swedish Snus...
I didn't originally like it, but it grows on you fast.
It will get a lot better in a short period of time.
The salt really isn't just a "taste enhancer" it actually is better for your oral health and helps in keeping the overall product fresh and delicious. :P

:0 Newb Question On Saltyness Of Swedish Snus!! Can Anyone Help???

Hi everybody I am new to swedish snus. I have been using the American camel frost snus and wanted to switch to the swedish snus because it is healthier and more nicotine. I ordered Thunder frosted long+ , Grovsnus, Catch licorice and Catch Pure Mint. But they are all extremely salty even the flavored ones. Which is like putting Peppermint, Spearmint or Licorice in your mouth with a bunch of salt !!! Is there any swedish snus that is not salty??? Could someone please recommend some swedish snus that is not that salty, that has different flavors other than just regular tobacco! The american camel frost snus tastes like spearmint bubble gum to me which is great. I wouldn't want to mix that with salt and don't understand why swedish people would like that. The way the tobacco is processed is great but so far I don't like the saltyness of it. Nor does my step-dad that got the grovsnus, because it was supposed to be comparable to copenhagen which is salty but he thought this was too salty as well. Got it so he would try and quite smoking. Before I did the American camel frosted snus I did Camel wide wintergreen dip which wasn't really salty either. I hope someone can help and recommend a swedish brand that has flavors and isn't very salty. It says flavor enhancer on the can, so I don't think this is required for the manufacturing process more of a swedish preference it seems. I think us Americans would prefer less salty, Especially with the flavored ones. Please help.
