Any plans to stock up before FDA regulation or PACT kick in?

I am VERY concerned regarding the recent actions of the US government with respect to FDA regulation of tobacco and most particularly with PACT. The purpose of PACT is to restrict and regulate tobacco purchases via mail and yes, smokeless tobacco is specifically mentioned within these regulations.

Given this, I am considering placing a third order, of loose snus only, from amongst the value-priced snus, in order to preemptively stockpile snus prior to the institution of these regulations. I have never used loose, although I do have one can of Roda Lacket loose already on the way in my second snus order. I have no issues with my lack of experience with loose snus, given my goal here is to stockpile as much snus as possible, for as little money as possible, to cover my needs once the regulations have kicked in, and tide me over until I can begin making my own snus. (I have several tobacco plants from amongst 17 different strains already growing this year.)

Given I only use 4 mini-portions per day, I could hand bake very small pris out of the loose cans, meaning a single can of loose will end up lasting me for longer than a can of mini-portions. I am considering ordering the following loose:

    3 rolls Knox
    2 rolls Granit
    2 rolls LD

This would provide a total of 70 cans of loose, at a cost of $2.36 per can.

Is anyone else considering doing anything similar, or have any comments or warnings as far as ordering these brands having never tried them, or switching to loose without experience with loose?

We will have so much time to do something once we learn what this all means. I would certainly NOT buy a bunch of stuff you aren't certain you will like.

But to answer you, no plans on stocking up....yet. And if the day comes where it is clear there will be NO way to get snus, I am not sure what the point would be. I will just go back to smoking cause there is no way I will try to live without nicotine.

yea........you had better first try whatever you plan on stocking up on. And yes, I am beginning to stock up. But not really for the same reason you are. Its because my favorite is not going to be produced anymore. GetSnus is loving me. And I am loving them. Hell I've been getting my snus for exactly $2 per tin and shipped free. When I am done stocking up I will post a photo. You won't believe what you see. lol
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

This is one I'm just not going to stress about.
I like tobacco. I smoked cigars for years. When the new tax increases went through I switched to Snus to save money. If something happens and Snus gets to hard to obtain I'll switch to a pipe. At least I can get pipe tobacco locally without any problems.

I figure even if snus does get banned, they will find a way to get it here anyway. Just like they do with everything else.

i put in a 150 dollar order last week, and i put in a 200 dollar order last night, and finally broke down and bought an icetool and some los as well with haste, haha, so i can decide if i like los or not and them immediatley put in a large order of various los snus.

i've recently received information that a pro-snus lobbyist group has been formed and is either on the hill, or on the way to the hill, so i'm hoping that comes through. might help.

I just ran a topic over at the ask Joakim and Markus a question section of the forum. It is under the post heading "Restrictions and Regulations". Maybe they will be able to offer some insight.

              Anyway here is my post/question

              Joakim and Markus

There has been a lot of concern on the forum about such things as the Pact Act (restricting the shipping of tobacco) and the FDA regulating tobacco (and thus snus).

Can you guys weigh in and let us know SM thoughts on this- is it something you are concerned about, do you see it as a real factor in the future ?

Also do you know of any lobbyist representing SM to USA law makers?

              Thanks

Yeah i think that would be where i go 2 dd&b, a nice briar and a meerschaum and a corn cob would probably work nicely while at the same time tapering yourself off of nicotine even more and still having the advantages of smoking!

P.S. don't forget the st. james flake either>

Just put in an order for 4 rolls of Ettan los and a couple of cans of General ES. Should keep me till the end of the year at least.

I may have to do the same as I've got a Peterson lying in my cigar humidor that hasn't been touched in years.

Dumb f'n gov. They keep railing about how evil smoking is and what do they do? Take away an alternative that is the least harmful of all tobacco products and force people back to smoking.

In all honesty its going to be easier, if it isn't already, to buy illegal drugs on the street then it is to buy tobacco. It is just getting insane.

                      Did prohibition teach us nothing?

I hate to be somewhat positive about this PACT deal...but just think if it does indeed pass, it'll force us to use our yucky snus. I know I am not the only one here with 10+ cans of disliked snus sitting in my freezer.

You do have a point here. My second order should be here soon. It will have the LD and Granit mini-portions, but no Knox. The Knox comes highly recommended from so many, I will most likely order it anyway, but not until after I have sampled the Granit and LD mini-portions. I have yet to taste a snus I didn't like. On the other hand, I have avoided those like Offroad, Phantom, Gran Prix, etc, so far as well.

I can't do that, for several reasons. I switched from ryo to e-smoking as the new tax increases went into effect. Since then, I have found I am better able to do my workouts and speed-walks without smoke on my lungs. I also switched to e-smoking, prior to finding snus, because I refuse to pay the new taxes.

Ryo has been priced out of the market, while e-smoking will most likely be banned on 6/9/09, particularly given customs have been holding back shipment of e-smoking supplies for some time. (I ordered my 100 ml of tasteless 24 mg e-liquid LONG ago!) Now mail order sales of tobacco are about to get hit. Looks like Big Tobacco and government both work overtime to insure their revenue streams.

The online electronic cigarette sellers formed an association as well. The problem is, why would the government allow ANY product to cut into tobacco tax revenue? Big Tobacco won't have it either, unless they first clear the competition out of the market, by means of the FDA, and then bring a useless, 'too low nicotine level to be useful' version out themselves.

The government is not dumb here. They know exactly what they are doing. Railing against the 'evils' of smoking is merely the excuse used to raise taxes. The government cares not about less harmful methods of nicotine consumption, whether it be e-cigs or snus. The government only cares about insuring the revenue stream of tobacco taxes. It is far more profitable for the government if we all keep smoking cigarettes, instead of e-smoking or snussing. You didn't seriously think this was a health matter did you?

No I didn't. Still it's dumb of them to shout out snus and lose that extra revenue.

A shame the gov can't be sued if people come down with lung cancer from being forced to go from snus to combustible tobacco.
