Understand, the ONLY Swedish snus that is sold in some places is a few brands of General. Swedish Match bough a cigar distributer a few years ago and is using that in to distribute a VERY small sample of snus here. You can go to Swedish Match's site, or the General site and use their store locator to find a store that might be close. Unfortunately we have none here in NC. Richmond, which is about 2.5 hours north is the closest one to me. But ALL of the stores will only sell the limited snus that Swedish Match has decided to offer here.

I did find some cigar places that General listed but it is too far to support a habit. I really would like to try Monte Cristo, I saw Northener has it but I read they wouldn't ship to U.S., anywhere else?

There have been a few specialtie places that would ship it. Not anymore. Probably cause people here kept posting about them shipping it.

If I did know, I woun't post it here. But would at least PM you. But unfortunately, no.

A number of folks who have tried it weren't all that impressed, at least not impressed enough to pay the cost.

Getsnus.com if you are in a rush. Northerner or buysnus.com if you want full access to everything there is. Enough snus at both to keep you busy for a long, long time.

I saw my local Cigar Bar had the MC cigars so I didn't know how big of a deal it really was.

I like you, used Camel Snus for quite a while before discovering Swedish Snus. my first order was the "white portion" try out kit, and as I was brand new, I assumed white portion meant "like camel snus", as camel snus is technically a mini white portion. When i got that first kit, i opened up each can, expecting to be greeted with a great smell and just want to dive right in. that did not happen. i opened each can, and with a discusted face, closed each one and put them away.

i told you that to tell you 2 things.

            1. do not smell the snus until you have used it for a while and are comfortable with it. 2. when you get a can, just put the portion in your mouth and try it, taste first, and give the smell some time and you will, i promise, get used to it. it took me about 2-3 weeks of steady snusin', but i have gotten used to and like the smell of snus now. as weird as that may sound.

next, i would suggest the following. i myself prefer flavored snus, i've tried a wide selection, and i will suggest my favorites. these are great to start with.

            beginner -
            1. mocca pomegranate - this is a great beginner snus, and one of the closest to camel frost. the portion is almost the exact size and feel of camel frost, but this has a great cinnamon/apple/redhot taste to it. and it's a Swedish Snus! this will get you into swedish products as it has a slight, mild salty aftertaste to it, as most swedish products do. remember: salt isn't bad, like in food, it brings out the flavor of the product.
            2. general mini mint - this is a very light snus, with a great mint flavor. it's the "camel frost killer", marketed for america, and about the closest to that product as you can get, but it's not as sweet, and has a mild tobacco flavor. it's a great adjustment and beginning to swedish snus.
            3. catch collection fresh//peppermint - it's the 2nd in a line of 4 snus products for 2009. (the original, catch collection chill//mint vanilla may still be for sale in some online stores if you can find it, it's a great one), and this one is a little stronger than general mini mint, and is more swedish. it's minty, but has a more swedish smell and taste. it lasts longer, as well.

            intermediate -
next, if you're transitioning from american to swedish, i suggest trying a few white portions. keep in mind, these are stronger, so you may get a stronger buzz than usual, just take it out, cool down, and try another one later. it happens.
            1. catch dry eucalyptus - this is one of my favorites. they also have it in a mini, but i suggest the white portion, i think it tastes better. it has a nice, minty flavor and a hint of eucalyptus. a mild salty aftertaste.
            2. jakobsson's ice fruit - when i first went from minis to regular white portions, this was my favorite. this one has a great berry/fruity taste, and a mild salty aftertaste. this one is very good, and definately still one of my favorites.
            3. gotlandssnus(greeen) - a very good earthy snus. it has a natural taste, with a hint of fig in the background. this is one of my favorite lazy afternoon ones, with a nice green tea, it's heaven.
            4. offroad cranberry - of this one or skruf cranberry, i find this one to be the best cranberry flavored snus. it has a sweet taste of cranberry, a mild salt taste, and a mellow buzz. it's a great flavored snus.

after you've tried some of the ones i've listed above, i suggest keeping a few cans of thunder frosted around. it's a very strong icy/minty snus, and a good first thing in the morning snus or just when you get a strong nic craving, it's good to satisfy that urge. it's very strong though, so if you start getting lightheaded, take it out, haha. it happened to me the first time i tried it.

again, these are my suggestions, but i'm sure you'll like a few of them.

            Chad

and just to show how different people are

There isn't a single snus on Chad's list I would reccomend.

From my own taste I would recommend LD Black and Thunder Frosted

Thanks for the suggestions, so many choices so little time, Lol! I like peanuts a lot so I'm not as worried about the saltiness but I've never had chew before so I'm not sure what oral tobacco tastes like, just cigarettes. I'll definately add some of these to my next order.

that's how different everyones taste is. when i first started, i went on a forum, and must have got 20-30 suggestions, and i bought them all to find my own taste. i don't know your price range, but it's a great way to find out what you like.

Well at $6/pack and a pack every other day I say there is some room for experiencing new types. It is nice that Camel Snus is less than a pack of Cigs ($4 here) you only get 15, in comparison to a V2 brand you can get a tin for $3 shipped and you get 24. I know many of the reviews give phantom a low mark but is it better than Camel Snus here in the U.S.?

It depends. I think the portions are intolerable, and they're in my top 5 list of most hated snus'. The lös is decent, but not my preference for snus* Phantom definitely has it's fans, and the price is cheap enough to be worth a shot.

*Phantom Brown lös I really dig. I haven't had the production version, but if it's as good as the test samples, it's on my must buy list.

The only horrible snus that just about everyone agrees on s Level. From there, really just a matter of personal taste. But Level is really that bad.

Keep in mind this is my opinion only. My most hated may very well be other's favorite snus. I think if nothing else you can consider these "controversial" and less likely to be uniformly liked(example General. General isn't my favorite, but it's decent, and most consider it a good snus)

                              Here they are...

                              Level
                              any V2 portion
                              Kronan lös
                              Elixyr Pepparmint
Hmm. The list falls off sharply here. I guess I'd have to say any SnusAB product. These are scarce, and you shouldn't really find them too many places. The Swedish Roots, and American Tourney and Grand Prix are(were?) made by this company.

The snus I listed above I consider unusable. I've thrown out snus from all the above brands. There's others that I don't care for so much, but thought were good enough to finish.

the only ones that i REALLY didn't like were oomph citrus/menthol, elixyr peppermint, and i've never heard a good review of offroad apple so i haven't even tried.

if you venture into american, avoid klondike and nordic ice, they're terrible, but the american triumph is really good, it's a swedish match product.
