    new snus'er , member + a ?

How's it going guys and ladys. I've just recently discovered the world of snus. A friend of mine was given a can of camel frost and gave one to me, I was instantly hooked. I've never been into smoking or dip but snus is great. I ordered up a sampler pack to try the real stuff wich I'm still waiting to receive. Today I found a place locally that sells some general snus. I picked up a can of the wintergreen mini mint. Loose and reg white. The wintergreen coudnt have been fresh it had no smell and zero flavor. The minis are ok but very little flavor. Is that normal? Thanks guys for the great forum hope to be posting more soon.

    Welcome Schmec...

You just need to be accustomed to the difference in American snus and "real" snus. The flavor and smell can be a bit subdued and much different. You should have a little bit of a mint in the wintergreen at least and possibly an "ammonia" smell. The stronger the smell the fresher the can. If it's not far out past it's expiration date and it's been stored cool it SHOULD be ok. As far as the mini mint not lasting long...i experienced the same thing. I did not think the flavor was very long lasting.

Welcome again and thanks for the question!

Sorry for the re-edit but I am curious...How old are you and why do you want to start using nicotine. These are not judgmental questions but It is a question that's come up before and I am merely curious. Thanks again!

Thanks for the reply. This can was a month past date and warm when I bought it. Must have just dried up. I'm really curious as to how the loose will taste

Snus not stored properly for long periods can really be a bad thing. The carcinogens go up and taste can be altered. I would say if it was warm when you bought it then it probably had been sitting out for a good long while. Rest assured your snus from Sweden will be much fresher and better tasting. Take a look around and you will see a lot of opinions on exactly how long you can leave a can of snus out of the fridge and it still be good. I would say a week to 2 weeks is O.K. beyond that and it needs to go back in.

The carcinogens will go up slightly, but it's not a significant amount. The flavor will definitely be affected though, and Swedish Match brands seem to age worse than some of the other makes.

            Welcome to the forum Schmec

I second everything lxskllr and ctimb2002 said. Improperly stored snus can go bad quickly and its not a pretty thing. The snus you have coming should be a very different experience.

Also give yourself a little time to adjust to the Swedish brands. Most American dips are syrupy and over the top. The Swedish snus is much more refined and complex. It will take a while to get the various nuances. At first it may even seem subtle in flavor.

Anyway welcome and let us know what you think once your order comes in.
