If you think the fact I find Elyxr useful, as I have accounted for in probably 50 posts now over the past year +, that's cool. Umm, you do know though that some other significant, long time posters also use Elyxr too don't you. Trust me, I am not alone. Not everyone hates it. In fact many folks who have taken the time to understand what it can do for them like it very much. It's not for you, OK. But don't you dare judge other snus users, many who have been using far, far longer than you, just because they do find it useful.

If you were referring to my post, its damn near the same thing.

The Adderall I take (and have a prescription for) is a combination of various mixed amphetamine salts.

Methamphetamine is the same base molecule with an added methyl group (CH3). This increases its ability to cross the blood brain barrier and induce its effect and keeps it from getting enzymatically degraded by Monoamine oxidase (MAO).

Recreational use of this drug includes taking orally, smoking and injecting. The later two cause rapid effects.

I take two different kinds of Adderall- the regular and the XR or extended release.

The regular one has a half life of about 4 hrs for me (meaning that I have to take every 4 hours to maintain effect). At the end I end up getting sleepy, hungry (the stimulant effect makes you not be hungry), and just feel like I'm crashing (as in energy drink crash not meth crash).

The XR that I take at other times contains drug that is metabolized at two different time points. This means that I get an immediate effect and as that one is getting degraded by my system the next one comes into play.

I don't get any of the euphoric effects seen in meth use as regular amphetamine isn't nearly as potent, and the fact that I take it orally means that it has to go into my GI system get degraded in my stomach pass into my blood go up to my brain = time.

this is as opposed to meth which you could smoke causing the drug to be absorbed through the alveoli jump into the blood and hit the brain, much in the same way that you would get a quick nic fix with a cigarette; or injected straight into the blood where you would also get very rapid effects.

Methamphetamine does have some potential uses medicinally as a treatment for ADHD, though this isn't frequently prescribed due to the high abuse potential.

In fact these days it is even quite difficult to get a prescription for the original adderall as it is supposed to have a higher potential for abuse - meaning that it is either taken in excess or more commonly crushed up and snorted for a quick high.

this is kinda puzzling to me, b/c breaking open the capsule of the extended release version and crushing that up would have the same pharmacologic effect. :roll:

Anyway both methamphetamine and adderall ritalin, etc. are classified as schedule II drugs. This means as a physician you have to apply for a special prescription pad with hardcore encoding to keep people from fabricating prescription.

It also allows for better tracking of the number of prescriptions for these substances given out and to whom Ex. family member.

As a reference:
Schedule I drug - has no approved medicinal use. Ex. Heroin. As such it is only available in research labs where you run experiments on mice.

schedule II - high potential for abuse adderall, ritalin.

Schedule IV - Benzodiazepines (Xanax);

Schedule V - cough syrup.

Second to last side note - adderall originally developed and used as a weight loss drug, because the activation of sympathetic nervous system decreased hunger.
