Camel Snus Review (New Swedish Style)

I got my shipment in with Camel Original portions and Camel white portions!!!!!

I smoked Camel's for over 20 years so I was excited to see an authentic Swedish style snus come around and I ordered me a can of original and white.

My package came today and I grabbed it out of the mail dudes hands and ripped into it like a fiend.

    Ok, on to the product.

    The can:

They are plastic, but they look really cool. The flip top is painted with a metallic paint. I thought they may be metallic based on the picture but they are still really cool.

    The snus:

It is definitely a traditional snus with a heavy Bergamot smell coming from it. The original portions have a slight ammonia odor to it. It wasn't bad at all, just smelled very fresh.

The white portions were more muted yet still have a very strong Bergamot odor.

    White Portion:

The tobacco is very moist inside the pouches with a little juice leaking through. Most white portions I have seen are completely dry. The material is very nice and felt good in my mouth.

The flavors were very mellow and after about 15 minutes the flavor kicked in. I kept it in for about 2 hours and the flavor was still nice at that point.

    Original Portion:

Holy macaroni salad this is moist! There was a portion stuck to the lid when I opened it and you could see the sweet sweet tobacco juice residue on the lid.

It is very strong smelling with a slight ammonia flavor upon opening.

The portions are very moist as I mentioned so you get a shot of flavor right away as you pop it in.

I had the original in for about 2.5 hours as I held a meeting and the flavor was still nice after that point.

    Nicotine:

Northerner.com lists them as "Average level" and I agree. I use mini's or normal 8mg portions and it was just fine. I didn't notice anything different nicotine wise from the GB #2 that I use all the time.

    Final thoughts:

It shares a lot with 1847 (smell) Lucky Strike (Bergamot flavor) and Pall Mall (Portion feel, flavor)

If you like any of the above, you will like this new brand/flavor.

As mentioned elsewhere, the price at northerner.com is pretty nice too! $2.88 per can.

One downside is that the white portions are 24 portions, but only 20g of content.

Awesome review. I was waiting for a post on these. they sound pretty nice actually, and would love to try them. If I ever order from Northener, I'll have to throw in a tin.

Sounds good to me. Does the snus have any hints of Turkish/Oriental tobacco?

        Thanks Ainkor,

All 3 of those snuses are in my rotation so it looks like I will not be disappointed. Northener shipped me 2 cans of original portions last Friday. I'll add my $.02 when they show up.

I had a feeling it would have that generic BAT flavor like in most of their other products, which is a GOOD thing.

I simply ordered 2 cans of the originals just for the can and brand name, but its nice to know that I will like these for sure.

Pall Mall was great, although the portions seemed under-filled, so im pretty excited.

                Is that your first impression?

I'll wait for a few more reviews before ordering a couple of cans.

I was kind of torn in my expectations of these. In one way I was hoping for something to incredibly good that it would blow my mind. On the other hand though I would be just as happy with something that they didn't **** up.

It's a good product which makes me happy! I always order a few Pall Mall's and Lucky Strikes so it will be a worthwhile sub compared to those. If anything just to show my Camel smoking buddies what they are missing

High Expectations being a former Camel smoker.

I tried the white portion last night and the original this morning. From first impressions I found them to be similar to Pall Mall and Lucky Strike. My personal opinion is these are all on the bland side with just the straight up tobacco taste and a standard nic hit. There is absolutely nothing wrong with with this Camel Snus but also nothing exciting or unique about it.
It just feels to me this product was made after the strong branding
was decided. The idea being as long as it has a Camel on it we can sell it mentality.

If Pall Mall is going to be discontinued then my prediction is that this stuff will be heading to the grave next.

Me is wondering how it compares to Gustavas and LD.

I knew it would be the generic taste, im just ordering a can just to show those who like Camel here a new form.

                          Plus the cans look badass

                            My $.02

First of all, It has zero sweetness. It has absolutely nothing in common with Camel snus sold by RJ Reynolds.

Camel original flavor made by JTI Sweden AB is a traditional Swedish snus. Is has a tobacco taste flavored with bergamot. It is good but nothing exceptional. I can't find anything bad to say about it, but on the other hand, there is nothing that sets it apart from all the other snus there.

It's a good snus to have in your rotation but I doubt it will be satisfying enough to be a main goto snus that people will use religiously.

                            jamesstew,
It has a different taste than Gustavas, and I can't compare it to LD because I haven't tried it yet.

Im actually a big fan of this.

Its like Lucky Strike without the heavy smoke flavor.

Its a lil less " Twangy " than Pall Mall.

I honestly like the flavors that JTI produces as a snus company.

No frilly flavors, no peppery notes, just good ol tasty tobacco.

I will be buying this in the future but im still a Los user so my orders will be few and far between.

NOTE: If they would release this in the US i think it would help snus get its foot in the door of the american market, especially carrying the Camel Name, unlike that sweet BS that sell now.
