Camel's cool by me. Do what you enjoy. A lot of the Swedish varieties are tough to take, but if you sample enough of them, you're bound to find a few you'll like.

For discretion (small pouches - and a good non-tobacco taste), you might try the Wise (now known as Oomph) Citrus-Menthol or Energy snus. For a very good low salt, light and natural tobacco traditional flavor; Tre Ankare's among the best.

or... be happy with Camel (whatever works).

I could easily see many people liking the Camel better than Swedish snus, its just a matter of personal taste preference. I loved the Camel when I first tried it (was disappointed by nicotine in first test phase, usually had to pop 2 to satisfy - but it was only about 3 bucks for 20 at first around here, no idea what price is now). BUT, after trying the real stuff, I've never looked back, fits what I like flavor wise much more than Camel, plus the wide variety is nice, can pick and choose a flavor(s) for the day.
Have no issues with the Camel, its a good product, just not for me, to echo many others, just tastes too sweet, also why I didn't like triumph.

BTW, snused Swedish for a year, have never had anyone notice a portion in my lip (restaurant manager so definitely can't take a chance w/ loose at work) and also have never had anyone comment on a smell associated with it.

Just a note... Someone last night said snus makes me smell like dog piss. I promise it's not me because when he smelled the tin he said that was it.
Hahah. Also I have borderline OCD'ish hygiene and clothes washing habbits. I was using General white portion. Dog piss, that's new. I have no idea what dog piss smells like so Idk haha.

I tried to get my friends to try general, but they were more interested in my other friend's tin of camel frost.

Also, I think frost is considerably better than the other two flavors (to the guy who asked). The spice one is pretty okay... I dont know if theres a bad batch around here or what, but my friends and I seem to agree that the spice has way less nicotine. Just different content or bad batch... I don't know because Ive only had one tin of spice. The flavor is good though, kind of like a more earthy big red gum haha.

Wait... camel makes a citrus snus? is that the "original" flavor because I haven't seen it.

In Orange county California, the 711's have had them 2for1 for about $5 for like a year.

here is my two-fingers on this thread:

camel, and triumph, and other american brands, are pretty sweet. it turns off many americans

some swedish brands are also really sweet, and swedish snus users use them.

I do not believe that american tastes are "so different" from any other people's. There is always some regional differences, but we shouldn't type-cast "amercian snus" as always being sweet when the field hasn't even expanded. there is 2-5 known brands so far. american snus hasn't had it's say yet.1

I look to a future with swedish, danish, american, canadian and other producers producing a wide range of snuses, from very sweet to salty to bitter to confounding, available at gas stations and super markets in the countries that eventually embrace harm reduction.

          so yall are haters, basically.

Oh I just read this on the wikipedia article

"In December 2008, the Spice and Original flavors were replaced with a single Mellow flavor"

I think the 711's around here have leftover originals and mellows, because Im pretty sure the tin I had that seemed weak was mellow. So maybe that's why it seemed weak to me. I didn't actually try it until recently as the frost seemed to fit the use at work bill pretty well. So it would make sense

I'll always have a soft spot for Camel SNUS since it helped me quit smoking.

I had used Swedish snus before in 06 but never really made the switch. I got two free tins of Camel SNUS frost from a liquor store about 5 months ago and just stopped smoking after a 7 year habit. Seriously, I wasn't even trying to quit...it just happened.

Now I order the snus online and it's fun to try out different flavors and such. Still, I must thank Camel SNUS for helping me quit smoking. Since I quit smoking, I've gone the whole way and started eating healthy and exercising. I feel and look pretty ****ing good now.

I don't use Camel SNUS anymore (there are two free cans sitting in my freezer still). However, I must say that I love it as well.

So, I've decided I'm going to sell (or maybe give away?) all my Camel SNUS. If anyone's interested, I have like 3 tins of frost, 4 tins of mellow and like 9 tins of Spice.

Hit me up with an offer, I'll probably take it.

For the quick and dirty craving, it seems to do just fine .

Though with Swedish snus being a click away for cheaper, I'm not sure why one would use it for anything else .

Camel just started showing up here about 3weeks ago. I wonder what took it so long to make it to San Diego??

I bought the mellow flavor whilst waiting for my Swedish order. I liked the flavor for the first 5 min and after that I was nauseous..... I felt horrible all night in fact.

I drink diet coke and diet Arizona tea all day and those are pretty sweet drinks. But Camel mellow tasted like I made a coffee and dumped like
10 sweet and lows in it.

Twas too much for me to handle.

Try Catch Vanilla mint mini. now that's some tasty stuff. But ya better hurry, they stop production of it and on to a different flavor April 1st.

I picked up a roll of it and I think i better grab another roll or 2 or 3

I also learned about and began using snus with Camel over a year ago. I really liked the frost and spice and the best thing about these, I could use them at work and nobody could notice. After a few tins of Camel I learned from snuson about "real" snus and ordered a bunch from buysnus. So anyway, this past year I have been hooked on this "real" snus because I like it and because Camel wasn't sold anywhere near me. Today I stopped at a c-store and there it sat in a fridge behind the counter, frost and mellow! I was so excited I bought 5 of each, cleaning the store out! As soon as I got to the car, I opened a tin and I was sooo disappointed! These portions are huge compared to the original Camel! They are like 1" long slender tubes. These are not discreet enough for me to use at work! The frost tastes like the original frost and the mellow is awesome! It has a very sweet tea/coffee/pipe tobacco flavor to it which lasts a long time! I'll definitely be keeping these around when I get a sweet tooth, in the privacy of my own home though.

I thought the new portions tucked up nicely. Not really noticeable to me, but maybe I have a big mouth :^D

Compared to swedish regular 'rectangular' portions, Camel are small...but this new size is not as discreet as what they originally started out with. I used to use the original camel size snus during church, that's how discreet they were, but now, with these new ones, no way! *I'm thinking it may be a sin to enjoy nicotine while in church, oops...* LOL

It's a sin to enjoy anything in church... even church itself. The act of 'going to church' is meant to be symbolic of submission to torture for the greater good. You're not supposed to enjoy it.. and that's the point.

                                Just kidding.

My real contribution here is to ask if you've ever eaten Chinese food? While your first thought is likely about the last time you hit up the local "No. 1 China Buffet", I still wonder if you've ever eaten real Chinese food (ie, in China... eat what the locals eat)?

General Tso's Chicken is not Chinese. Raw rooster balls and pork leg tendons are. Chicken feet are a delicacy.

As my wife is Chinese and we've been over to meet the in-laws a few times, I can tell you that some is ok (to me), and much just doesn't appeal to my American palate.

The Chinese food most of us are familiar with is "Americanized Chinese". It's artificial and sweetened and flavored to appeal to the American palate (ie, overly sweet to mask the authentic, natural flavor and texture).

I think American snus (eg, Camel, Marlboro, etc) is not much different. It's formula is based upon what they (the manufacturers) think the majority of Americans will buy, and is sweetened to fit their case studies and surveys. Trying to, in any way other than superficially, replicate Swedish snus is not in their financial interests.

Further, 10-15 years from now, I would almost bet "snus" will be considered an American invention only loosely based on its primitive Swedish roots.

It's not a bad thing if you prefer "China Buffet" over real Chinese food. And it's not a bad thing if you prefer Camel Snus over Swedish Snus. But I think it's important for consumers to realize the former is 'designed' and marketed especially for the demographic, while the latter is simply made according to tradition.
