Camel Snus - Is it really so bad? I say no.

A lot of people have been knocking the Camel Snus. ...and I'll go ahead and agree with the fact that it doesn't taste, or perform (nicotine wise) near as satisfactory as the Swedish snus.

    but...

There area few reasons I really like the Camel Snus and I just wanted to throw them out there.

My reason for converting to Snus was purely functional.
I work in an environment where using tobacco and/or smelling like tabacco is very frowned upon.

Due to the size and shape, the camel pouches can go unnoticed by others when in your lip. In sweden it may not be unusual to see a lump in someones lip, but around these parts people aren't too keen on it... also Im trying to be stealthy here...

Also people often tell me I smell like cat urine after having used Swedish snus. I kind of agree... I have two cats and the smell is (to me) reminiscent of cat spray. If multiple unrelated people have told me this, it can't be that far fetched right?

The camel snus has none of this smell... and actually smells much like gum. Plus in my book.

Lastly... I think the frost flavor has an amazingly excellent taste when mixed with coffee. Almost reminds me of warm mint n chip ice cream.

On a daily basis I prefer general or the ole rape. But... at work I keep the camel snus around.

I think if the flavoring wasnt so ridiculously strong, I would use it outside of work as well... (because of the ease of obtaining it in the US)

Anyway... Just wanted to give my two cents... it's not fantastic... but it has it's uses!

I used 3 tins of Camel before converting to the Swedish stuff. I thought the same things as you, but after using the Swedish stuff for a few days then trying a Camel, I could barely stand the Camel stuff. It just tasted so... fake and overly sweetened.

I think if I ever ran out of snus before an order came in I'd pick up some Copenhagen or Skoal to tide me over before I'd grab another tin of Camel Snus.

I work around some very "say what you think" people, and I have yet to be told that I smell like cat piss while using snus. Has anyone else experienced this??

I work around some very outspoken people as well and I'm pretty much using snus morning, noon and night. So far no comments from anybody.

My girlfriend doesn't like the way my breath smells sometimes when I have a portion in, but it usually depends on the brand. The stronger, tobacco-flavored regular portions are the main offenders. Otherwise, no other problems. She can't stand the way any of them smell in the tin....I don't know what the hell is wrong with her. :P

As far as Camel snus.....if a Swedish brand came out with a flavor exactly like Mellow, except without that shitty fake sweetness, it would instantly become my favorite overnight.

I think the only bad about the Camel is it's TOO sweet. if they'd reduce the sweetness, maybe by half, or maybe a third, I think it'd be fine. Now everyone has their own taste, but so far, I have found only 1 Swedish snus that I think is good. Most of it has turned out to be rather yucky bad to me. Maybe I have those "sweet" American tastes. What's Nordic Ice like compared with Camel? But really, the more and more Swedish stuff I keep trying and not liking, it's putting me off the whole trial.

There is nothing "bad" about Camel. It isn't Swedish snus, but so what. If folks like it, have at it. I come from a relatively small group here who was using snus long before camel came around. I had an opportunity to try it even before Raleigh was a test market, as I ran across some marketing reps from camel who had some. I used to love the old Spice, and still have some in my refrigerator.

My biggest issue with it was the nicotine content was too little. but no worse then the Mocca minis, and I still buy those occasionally as well.

The only real "problem" with camel is it sets people taste expectations up to fail when they first try to convert over to Swedish snus. there is just nothing like it on the Swedish snus. Most folks come to like the Swedish stuff, but some can never make the transition. I consider Camel a great desert snus. When I don't have any Triumph, I still use it occasionally.

Dude, I LOVE Camle Snus... there I said it.

I started with Swedish Snus first then hit up the Camel Snus when my store here got it in.

The flavors are fine by me and last for hours.

I think people view it as its not " Real " Swedish snus but it is. Hell, their website says they even sell it in sweden.

Too many people blast it just because its an american product, but I love it a whole hell of a lot more than Triumph, thats for sure.

Are you getting ripped off, yeah, in a way because its almost 5 bucks a tin for it and it only has 15 pouches.

To be honest I think its the best tin out there at the moment as its attractive and eye catching. Down side there is no place to put spent portions btu i never used that option anyways.

I love swedish snus, especially gotlands Los, but I love Camels portions.

Im not afraid to say it, too many opinions of it are biased and I do not think Camel Snus gets enough credit thats due.

Well, this seems like an appropriate spot for my first post.
I want to say that I am no longer a Snus virgin. I picked up my first tins of Snus on my drive home and they were both Camel.
I paid seven dollars after taxes for two tins so I dont know where this five dollar a can figure is coming from but where I am from in the state of Georgia its cheap.

I put in a frost about 30 mins ago and I have been pleased. It smells like mint gum but it doesn't make my breath smell.
Coming from a background of pipe smoking and the occasional cigarette the nicotine hasnt bothered me, its just been a sort of nicotine chill. By that I mean that I feel super relaxed. I dont know why.

I dont have anything to compare it to yet but as a first experience it was my best 'first time tobacco product' experience yet.

The guy I picked it up from said that I will most likely like the Frost flavor the best unless I can find the Original. He said that the Original tastes like sweet tea. Sounds interesting.

                        I say yes.

haha ok.. lemme explain. I started on Swedish snus, THEN found out about Camel Snus...

when i tried the Camel snus.. holy crap..I really thought it was way too flavored. I had tried the Citrus and felt like I had a creamsicle in my mouth.

I know its all preference, but if I had to choose b/w buying a pack of cigarettes or buying Camel Snus well...I'd probably still get the snus, but be really close to getting the cigarettes... like 60/40..

It's $5+ a tin here in NY, but then we tax the hell out of everything...

It's not BAD, or anything, but there's really not much of a comparison to either the cost (Paid $5 and change for 15 portions, or $11 for 72 portions from getsnus), or the quality, I think, of most Swedish snus. It's designed for Americans, and as an introduction, I think it works pretty good. I can't ever see it being my regular snus though, unless it becomes amazingly cost-prohibitive to get stuff from Sweden.

I quit smoking with Camel snus!
It definitely is really sweet. Makes sense, though, as it would appeal to the American market (or kids?). It makes a good dessert snus imo, but I'm sure once I find a flavor that I enjoy, it won't compare to the real swedish stuff.

I'd like to know what's in it but chances are we'll never see the ingredients. In Sweden, snus is classified as a food product, so they have to show you the ingredients and follow strict guidelines in order for it to be labeled as snus. I wish it was like that here in the states.

Either way, the Camel stuff got me off smokes so I'm not complaining.

I ordered a roll of the General Dry Mini Mint portions hoping it's a good alternative to the Frost and not nearly as sweet.

I also agree with Jason. I'd love to see a swedish variety of the 'mellow' flavor from Camel.

That's the key. Americans put sugar in everything; including most oral tobaccos. If Camel had used salt instead, they would not have made it past the testing phase.
